New Dolphins logo is leaked

Several potential versions of the Miami Dolphins’ new logo have been leaked.  Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that one of the logos leaked last week is indeed the new logo.

Salguero cites multiple unnamed team sources in support of the report.  He also writes that the Dolphins will ditch the aqua face masks, wearing white cages for the first time in franchise history.

As to the logo, the jumping, helmeted dolphin has been replaced with a sleek, stylized swimming mammal over a circular sunburst background.

Per Salguero, the new logo officially will be unveiled on April 25, the first day of the 2013 draft.

In other words, get your credit cards ready that night for the purchase of new Dolphins gear.

Hey, billionaires didn’t become billionaires by being stupid.

  1. Well, at least the new logo doesn’t show a Patriot with his foot on the Dolphin’s neck.

  2. then a dog took a “leak” on it, u guys way overpaid Wallace, hes gona be nothing without big bens accurate big arm, next year u will want him to restructure then the year after that u guys will end up cutting him

  3. Bad news… sad thing is ALL of South Florida wanted Ellerbes Twitter Pic to be the new logo

(u know, the aggressive looking dolphin?)

After an awesome free agency the phins screwed the pooch with this s****y Cruisline Logo

  4. “As to the logo, the jumping, helmeted dolphin has been replaced with a sleek, stylized swimming mammal over a circular sunburst background.”

MF, Im shocked (and disappointed) you didnt use strikeout and say fish, then “correct” it by saying mammal.

  5. So the “leaked” logo is the one that has been in circulation since last year?

  6. Looks more like a killer whale, looks terrible. Should have just stayed old school with that crap.

  7. And everything Dolphins that is from the post Dan Marino era continues to suck. Still confused how anyone can cheer for a team who willingly sells shares to the likes of Marc Anthony, Jimmy Buffett and Fergie.

  8. TERRIBLE!!! I would hv rather use some type of wave/water than a starburst. Plus the dolphin is too obvious. I would fire the ad agency.

  9. The NFL finally cracks down on concussions and what do the Dolphins do? They take away poor Flipper’s helmet, that’s what!

  10. These are the same moves the Marlins made. Spend money in offseason, change logo, get public funding to improve stadium (build new Marlins stadium), create a false buzz about winning and then blow it all up after a losing season.
When will the residents of Miami learn?

  11. Should have said friendliest “mascot” in the league.

And in my opinion changing this logo is wrong. I loved the classic logo on Bob Griese’s helmet when he was wearing those Buddy Holly glasses.

It’s a mistake for the NFL to so easily part with tradition.

  12. Lived there for 7 years, always a whimpy logo. They should have been the Sharks, anyway.

  13. The pic looks like the old logo. Aqua and orange with a fish. Just keeping the tradition huh?

  14. Sharks, no. Manatees maybe, but they run a 94.5 forty. At least they don’t have the captive dolphin in the end zone catching extra points anymore

  15. I like it BECAUSE there’s no helmet on the dolphin. For me, it was always a bad logo. You don’t need to put a helmet on a dolphin to tell us its a football mascot. Why? Because its on a football helmet.

    Anyway, great work. Sleek, modern.

  16. Russell Wilson would have done a better job keeping this under wraps. Just a little dig to Seahawks fans. Logo looks nice! Keep doing what you r doing Dolphins! HTTR!

  17. A new logo for a new era. I like it. It makes the old one “classic” rather than just…old.

  18. This logo has been on google images and uni-watch for literally like two months…great uncovering skills lol

  19. But if you looked carefully at the dolphin’s helmet, there was another dolphin wearing a helmet with a dolphin on it. And so on…

    We’ve lost that now.

  20. …actually, if they were REALLY REALLY smart/scummy, they’d’ve planned to unveil that logo like a month after, or right before the preseason. hook the trendy, impatient, rich & stupid all twice!

  21. Brutal new logo, maybe Miami wants to be the destination for all the players who decide to “come out”

  22. HELLO …. It’s a DOLPHIN !! What do you do to toughen up a dolphin, give him a knife, a helmet with a sword?

  23. It’s..blah.

Ross is a putz; its all about the $$$.

They should go back to their 1971-74 era uni’s. Those looked great.

    And a white facemask??? Hahahahaha!

  24. The dolphin is the friendliest logo? Please as a saints fan there is nothing friendlier than the Fluer de Lis which in translation means flower of Lisa

  25. I think the logo is a good, modern upgrade. The change isn’t too drastic and they got rid of the helmet with the “M” on it that the old dolphin was wearing.

Stroke of genius my friend, three thumbs up

  27. If this is the real logo I gotta say it’s better than most of the garbage that’s been suggested lately. All I know is the team has sucked since 2000 when Marino retired and we got that happy Dolphin logo. Maybe this is the change we need…

    Go Dolphins.

  28. I like the logo as it is right now. I like the dolphin wearing the helmet. It is more of a 3D type of logo and the new one looks more flat and like a painting. Can’t believe they are changing it.

“u guys”, as if the people on this website are making any decisions with regard to the football team. +1 for smart fans.

  30. At least the colors are true to old school Miami and the white masks are always tops. I don’t love it but I understand the modernization and I love squashing the green. You can’t please us all.

Ellerbe’s twitter logo would have been much better.

  31. This is the new NFL… there will be no Redskins, dolphins are superior to people, and defense is not allowed.

Now everybody go take a time out and think about how to create world peace!

  32. Who cares about the stupid logo? It means nothing when it comes to wins & losses. As for Ross being stupid, there are plenty of people who lucked into money. So yes, he is stupid.

  33. Armando Saguero says 1st time using white facemasks. Untrue, the early 70’s Dolphins used white facemasks.

oh this logo took effort. I’m overwhelmed at how creative it was. No matter the logo, they still suck

Are you really in the position to bash any team? How’s that guaranteed SB going?

  35. Sea World thought they had won the bidding war for the rights to this logo. Little did they know Miami Dolphin’s owner Stephen Ross was about to hop out of his private jet to make the last-minute offer that would save the storied football franchise.

  36. Frankly I don’t like it. Personally I feel like a logo change is unnecessary. However, I do not own the team.
Honestly, it might do more to hurt their push for a new stadium than help it. Probably should have had the fans vote on a logo, even if it meant keeping the old one.

  37. @paulpps

“Armando Saguero says 1st time using white facemasks. Untrue, the early 70′s Dolphins used white facemasks.”

    ————————-

They did not. You are wrong. They were gray until 1980 when they were switched to green. 10 seconds on Google can tell you that. At least double check before making arguments.

  38. As other who posted ahead of me have said, this has been on “Google Images” for months already. There is no surprise here.

  39. “boswivel says:

Uhhh no. It has always had an “M” on it. Not sure how you and 31 other people could even mistake that.

First, I, a typical fan, care about the logo. You are always a Dolphin hater. Negative. Fans wear these logos, adorn personal spaces with our colors. All my gear is now “Throwback”. It’s a big deal. Especially from a storied franchise rich in history.

Yeah Ross is rich. Who are you? Are you a rival billionaire who has information about how luck played into his success? Oh, I would think not, otherwise you wouldn’t be trolling Dolphins discussions eight hours a day. Ross inherited Parcells and Crew. Jeff Ireland was a rookie that was molded by Tuna 20 years after he was relevant. Ross let Parcells walk out like we all knew he would but respected the contract he was given. When it was time to clean house, Ross saw a smart guy who was poorly trained and challenged him to go outside his zone and adapt. And he got Philbin in there, who actually helped Ireland come out of his box and build to the systems needs. Last year Ireland got rid of Marshall while the contract was still long enough to get a decent compensation. It’s not that all of his players are busts, he just went all in on a quick, cap-friendly rebuild that matched the way his new QB plays. They prepped the team last year by unloading crap off this years cap. He set himself up to get younger and cheaper all around and yeah spent a ton on Wallace but while Tannehill and the whole skill position cap is minimal. Every new contract has a two-year out without killing the cap. Even Wallace gets his big hit next year when the Free Agency is going to deplete us. Some of the best cap repair work in a long time. Yeah he was a source of the cap problem, but it seems he has learned. He used FA to fill needs he is weak in drafting and left his strength open to build in the draft.

But that is because I am an informed, actual fan while you are Just always negative. Be negative when we are terrible, but get excited when we start getting a little praise for turning towards the goal line instead of fumbling and falling over over ourselves.

Football is a passion. Anyone who spends as much time as you do on message boards could learn to spend that time being positive and save the bashing for the Jets ad their fans…it’s their turn to hate and bash their team. This is the team of Csonka and Griese. And even Marino. This s the team of Shula and the only symbol of perfection in our favorite sport’s history.

Miami Dolphins #1. Always and forever. Even when we lose. At least in my mind.

  41. First thing that came to my mind when I saw that thing was Shamu and Sea World!

Good luck not getting sued by those guys for copyright infringement!

  42. No surprise there!

Look at all the lame generic uni’s-NE, CAR, STL, TEN, etc

  43. Guys it’s a great new look. The dolphin has “mean” eyes and is more sleek/modern. I’ve been a dolphin fan since 94 when I was 12 and an artist nearly as long and they did a great job with this, k.i.s.s.

  44. The reality is that the Dolphins current (or past) logo looks cartoonish. This logo is perfectly fine. It may not be amazing, but it’s just a logo. Fans will warm up to it over time.

  45. The “LOGO” doesn’t make a team and the switch to the new Logo should have been done after they get the QB of the franchise that will lead them back to the playoff days of the past. You always change LOGOS when you’re coming off a good season. they made a HUGE MISTAKE by letting go of the “Bush Man” until they know they got the running back for years to come and it’s always good to have backup support for your running game just in case the new RB doesn’t pan out. They need to go running back with their first pick, cut and dry.

  46. I guess I need to go find out what the old logo looked like and then compare it to what the new logo might look like.

  47. If I was a Dolphins fan I would be really pissed off. That new logo straight out sucks! I hate it when people try to fix things that aren’t broken.

  48. Why not change the colors to pink and yellow… horrible logo. Belongs on a seaworld hat.

  49. I think it is a good change. I don’t really concentrate on the colors/graphics too much during games.

  50. Some claim Dolphins have saved them from sharks. Dolphins are no joke. Studies show Dolphins are smarter than Cowboys.

    Dude, I’m still laughing.

I don’t hate the logo but it’s not “better” than the old one IMHO. Now the one that Ellerbe (sp) leaked? That I liked a lot.

As for the white face mask, they would be really cool if they changed the helmet to be Aqua instead of white. Oh and the mask was grey in the 70’s just like every other team was.

  51. Unlike the current one this logo has no personality… just like the Dolphins so I guess its a good match. Reminds me of Broncos design change circa 1990’s so I wouldn’t say they are spearheading any new ground in sports logo design art, but then again we’re talking about the Miami Dolphins ……followers … behind the times….. trying way too hard…. falling way too short of the mark…..

    Consistent with the team!

  52. For football to be a tough guys sport, the Dolphins always had a pansy logo. Change the color scheme, get a new logo, and take Mercury Morris somewhere too. If Waldo pops up again during a teams run to undefeated land, take him out!….lol

  53. Eventually all teams will change logos, uniforms, stadium naming rights every year. Too much of a business.

  54. Shamu, Seaworld, Feminine, beached whale, etc..This logo belongs on the Logo Channel.
When the current logo gear goes on sale in preps for this new monstrosity, I’ll shell out enough cash to buy stuff for the next few years before the gathering hordes storm the Davie Headquarters and demand it be changed to something that belongs in the NFL.

  55. Personally I think the new Dolphin is subtle improvement to the logo that was already in place. It will also give a nice throwback & separate era’s in Miami football history.

  56. It’s great to see the Dolphins are creating an environment for the first openly gay player.

  57. I’m a Viking fan and I’m an old school old fart. Anyway, I would be angry if I was a Dolphins fan having such big changes made to the logo. The old one was fine the way it was. A change for changes sake. Well the young people will probably like it?
