“Lions player arrested” headlines were so last offseason.

Except when they’re not.

Lions safety Amari Spievey was arrested Tuesday in Connecticut after a dispute with his girlfriend over child support, according to a report in the Middletown Press.

Spievey was charged with third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct for the incident yesterday, via the police report.

The girlfriend in question was also charged with risk of injury and disorderly conduct for her alleged involvement.

Santos (who lives with Spievey) told police that during an argument, Spievey put his hand around her neck and pushed her. She was accused of pushing him while he held their 2-year-old daughter, and of throwing a “flurry of punches at his chest.”

The third-year safety was set to be a restricted free agent, but re-signed with the Lions earlier this month.
