49ers expect Kendall Hunter, Kyle Williams to be ready for camp

AP

On one disastrous play against the Saints in November, the 49ers lost both running back Kendall Hunter and receiver Kyle Williams to season-ending injuries. Four months later, both players have made enough progress that the 49ers are confident they’ll be ready to go for the start of training camp.

Hunter, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon, has resumed running, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. Hunter had played very well in limited action behind Frank Gore, carrying 72 times for 371 yards, an average of 5.2 yards a carry. Having a healthy Hunter along with Gore and LaMichael James will give the 49ers a deep backfield in 2013.

Williams, who suffered a torn ACL, wrote on Twitter that he has started running, too. Williams had 14 catches for 212 yards last season. This year he may also take over from Ted Ginn as the 49ers’ primary punt returner.

  1. Even if he comes back full strength or better, Williams will have a challenge making the roster.

  2. they’re both on the fast track to getting cut. probably see these guys float around for a bit after that before bowing out like most ACL tears

  3. Looking forward to them coming back. The depth at wr hurt us in our playoff run. Kyle isn’t the greatest but the kid bounced back from his mistakes against giants. Hunter takes a loud off gore and helps keeps his legs fresh to finish teams in the 4th

  4. The beauty of life – simply is;
    however, movement in time, congruent in mind,
    is ruled by a myth.

  5. I’m gonna be like a dumb trolling niners fan and say that the NINERS SUCK! have fun looking up to the Seahawks for the next ten years. You had your little 2 year stint. Back down you go chumps

  6. Hunter was lost to injury during the Saints game. Manningham was lost during the game in Seattle. Don’t let the facts stand in the way of your story. I would like to see both of them at full strength after the pre-season games are done with. No need to rush them back. Go Niners!!

  7. James stepped up despite Gore’s strong season and made the most of what he had and Kyle grew a lot during last offseason mentally and showed more skill this year. With Manningham expected to come back healthy and if the 49ers do seek another WR in the draft, AJ will have more trouble getting on the field this year even with Ginn leaving for Carolina, especially if James and Williams compete/share for return duties.

    You must be new to all this but crowning your goofy team champs in the offseason puts you right down there with logicalvoiceofreason-not a good thing.

    Let the Seahawks actually win something ever instead of being the 1st team ever to go to the playoffs with a 7-9 record and then you won’t look like such a goofball thumping your chest.

    Troll on.

    Glad to read these two guys are recovering and will be back for the start of training camp.
