Cardinals interested in Palmer, but only on the cheap

At which point that Carson Palmer is available, and agreeable, it appears the Cardinals will have interest.

But while there’s little clear about the timetable of events that seem to be pointing Matt Flynn to the Raiders and then Palmer elsewhere, what’s clear is that the Cardinals have interest in the back half of that transaction.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the Cardinals are curious, up to a certain point.

While he’d arguably be the best of an odd lot of quarterbacks if he went to the desert, they’re also coming off giving up a cornerback, a second-round pick and over $20 million for the right to cut Kevin Kolb.

That has apparently caused them to be interested in Palmer only if it doesn’t cost much, meaning they’re only willing to give up late-round, conditional picks. That would also require them convincing Palmer to play for less than the $13 million he’s scheduled to make.

That’s a lot of ifs, for a team that might only be marginally better by acquiring him.
