ProFootballTalk: A goldmine of picks for Niners

The San Fransisco 49ers have an astounding 13 picks in this year’s draft. The only real area of concern on their roster is the secondary, which is why Mike Florio believes they should target a cornerback or safety early on in the draft. There is also a strong possibility that the Niners trade one or more of their picks during the draft.

  1. Your graphic said Worst Pick – Chris Culliver. Are you serious?? He struggled a little in the playoffs with the rest of the secondary after the pass rush started getting him, but he’s a young talented player. ProFootballFocus lists him #1 in the league in the first downs and TD’s allowed per snap category. Perhaps you meant to put Taylor Mays who was a clear bust in every way??

  2. I’ll be the first Niner fan to admit watching the draft two years ago saying “Aldon who?!!”. Shows how much I know about selecting picks.

The trust that Harbaugh and Baalke earned from the fans was done through turning around the perennial joke of the League into consecutive Super Bowl contenders. This years loss in the big game is a day that will forever live in infamy among the Faithful. But that which does not kills you makes you stronger and our hope is to use that loss as motivation to once again allow the Niners hoist the Lombardi Trophy!

  3. They have to be elated in SF, that the CBA prevents them from making big payouts for their draftees. With a fairly well established team, its going to be very difficult for many newbies to find their way to first string.

  4. Elam is a good looking guy for that first pick. Niners need a DE to backup Justin smith and maybe a NT for that chiefs 2nd rounder. DB is defiantly a pick I see happening at some point but I really hope niners get lattimore in a later pick. He could be the next frank gore and be his replacement if we can get gore under contract after this season. In away I hope niners combine some picks to get the safety from texas

  5. Yeah definitely agree with Willbow. Though Culliver picked the worst time possible to have the worst game of his career, and he certainly isn’t our brightest thinker, Pro Football Focus consistently ranks him in the top 10-15 in many of their key CB metrics. For example, the CB with the lowest % of first downs/TDs allowed per snap in the entire league? Non other than Mr. Culliver, who gave up a first down or TD on only 3.45% of all snaps in coverage. Next closest was Leon Hall at 3.75%.
