The Chiefs have reached agreement on a contract with linebacker Zac Diles, Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com reported Friday.

Diles’ contract is for one year, Caplan said.

Diles, 27, has started 31 games in six NFL seasons. In 2012, he played six games (one start) with Tennessee, recording 11 tackles.

Caplan noted that Diles could have a chance to contend at inside linebacker, a position where the Chiefs don’t have a clear-cut top option opposite of Pro Bowler Derrick Johnson, as PFT noted in its analysis of Kansas City’s draft needs earlier this week.

Diles (6-2, 245) has notched 237 tackles since entering the league in 2007 with Houston. He played collegiately at Kansas State.
