Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and Giants quarterback Eli Manning got together recently with some of their receivers for workouts at Duke University, whose head football coach is David Cutcliffe, who coached both Mannings in college. From all accounts it was a good offseason session for all involved.

But at least one player is unhappy he wasn’t invited.

Broncos receiver Andre Caldwell wrote on Twitter that he was upset he didn’t get an invitation to run routes and catch passes from Peyton at Duke, and that he takes it personally.

Manning, however, said today that Caldwell shouldn’t take it personally. According to Manning, there wasn’t space at the Duke facility for everyone they would have liked to invite, and so Manning decided to invite his three top receivers: Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.

“I’m excited to see Bubba’s competitive attitude,” Manning said, calling Caldwell by his nickname. “I hope he’s able to turn that into a productive offseason and has a good season for us this year.”

Perhaps tweeting was the only way for Caldwell to get Manning’s attention: Last year Caldwell didn’t have Manning look his way very often, as he played in eight games and caught one pass.
