The Packers have waived running back Brandon Saine, Ty Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Saine appeared in six games for Green Bay in 2012. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Green Bay’s Week Six win at Houston and missed the remainder of the campaign. Saine’s agent, Joe Flanagan, told the Journal-Sentinel Saine failed a physical with the club.

Saine, who played collegiately at Ohio State, signed with Green Bay in July 2011 as an undrafted free agent. He gained 69 yards rushing and receiving in his rookie season with the Packers.

Saine’s departure leaves the Packers with three running backs on the roster: DuJuan Harris, Alex Green and James Starks. The Packers hosted Cedric Benson on Wednesday, with Benson confirming the visit on Twitter. Benson began 2012 as Green Bay’s starting tailback before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
