Chiefs will take Eric Fisher

AP

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to make former Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.

The Chiefs will take Fisher with the first pick, a source with knowledge of the team’s plans told PFT’s Mike Florio.

For Fisher, tonight will culminate a rapid rise for a player who grew up in Michigan and couldn’t even get a Big Ten team to give him a shot. Even during his impressive senior season in 2012, few thought he had the makings of a top overall pick, but after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and in individual meetings with NFL teams, it became clear that many NFL coaches loved his toughness and potential.

And the Chiefs love Fisher enough to make him the first player called tonight.

  1. Good luck to you Fisher. You’re about to find out what it’s like to play for one of the worst teams in football. And they’re not going to get better anytime soon. You’ll be traded in couple years for something stupid. It’s the Chiefs way

  2. Chiefs are not just one player away from the playoffs. Trade out of the #1 pick and gain 4 players. There are enough teams that will want ‘in’ on that.

  3. he’s gonna be a great player.. NFL lacks that old school, smashmouth, not overly gifted but grinds it out, tough tackles from back in the day when the league was less flash and more smash. I’m excited to see this guy run through defensive lineman on Sundays

  4. I find it hard to be lieve that an Andy Reid team would let the pick be known before the commisioner calls it out. That being said, I like the pick and wish the guy luck.

  5. Sounds like no one offered enough for them to trade down, I thought they would actually be able to pull off the same thing the Vikings did last year with Matt Kalil but I guess the player value wasn’t there for teams or the Chiefs were just asking for too much

  6. So much for not tipping picks. Your own poll showed the VAST majority would rather know when it’s announced. But continue to call out ESPN for their integrity.

  7. What happened to not tipping the picks to the fans?

Someone missed the memo I think.

  8. Chiefs fans: don’t be surprised when Andy drafts Ed Anzalone. He loves taking 40 year firemen in the first round

  9. @Brassknuckles47 you can say the exact same thing about every team that was terrible enough to get the number 1 pick in the draft.

  10. i like this guy, but i would rather spend the 1st pick on a LT who played against NFL quality DE’s at A&M in the sec and did well than a guy who was playing against DE’s from teams like western kentucky.i know he had a good game in the senior bowl, but it was one game.

  11. pft just lost all credibility in my eyes and just displayed very classless reporting. Hypocrits

  12. So about that Brenden Albert thing……do you want us to wait for you to release him, or will you accept our 5th round pick for him?

  13. So despite not playing like a number pick while actually playing football, he won the post season underwear olympics and will now be the number one pick.

    Google the “definition of insanity”.

  14. You have to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal to think that – after all these years of teams sensationalizing, leaking, vetting and throwing smoke screens out to the overanalyzing Kiper’s / Florio’s (Revis has boarded the plane) of the world – anything is definitive.

If KC drafted Lindsey Lohan at 8pm I wouldn’t be shocked. C’mon Florio…..they aren’t disclosing jackshiat…..even to you. And what is ironic – “you know that”

  15. Geez thanks. There goes the suspense of the number one pick…why don’t you follow the lead of your network brethren and not tip picks!

  16. Until they make an official statement or Goodell calls the pick, I’ll continue to believe they have not made their pick yet.

  17. It changes every 10 minutes as these hardcore mock draft addicts are ready to burst for inside info. I will wait until draft time begins.

  18. Maybe I’m wrong, but to me this isn’t tipping the pick. This is a rumor, on the “rumormill” portion of PFT. Tipping picks is when the cameras show the player getting called and he is jumping up and down before Goddell reads the name. So to me, still a rumor.

  19. Why do I keep coming back to this site when every headline irritates me more than the one before? I dont believe anything a team leaks 2 hrs before the draft. Let it play out. We dont need to know until Roger the almighty tells us.

    ====================================

Are there ANY classy steeler fans out there?

  21. Sources say a lot of stupid things. Not believing it until the Goodell hug on stage.

  22. Seriously people? You’re upset that PFT tipped the pick of one of these ho-hum tackles?

  23. Well lets always bash espn every chance we get PFT and then let’s also go ahead and tell everyone you won’t tip off any picks and then do exactly that! HYPOCRITES!

  24. This leak is my responsibility. I gotta do a better job of not tipping picks. Time’s yours.

    Regards,
    Andy Reid

  25. The “source” is probably speculating like everybody else. He has a slightly better than 50/50 shot at being right but the Chiefs GM just said a little while ago that he is the only one who knows which guy it will be.

  26. Did something change in the new CBA?? I thought the team with the 1st overall pick was free to negotiate with any potential pick and announce it whenever they wanted. Now the 2nd team is free to do the same, right??

  27. Didn’t you just have a poll where 80+% said they did not want to know the call before it is read on stage. I guess you consider your own polls useless!

  28. Good one randallflagg52…using the words ‘classy’ and ‘Steeler’ in the same sentence. Did you type that with a straight face?

  29. ‘…after a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and in individual meeting’ Blah Blah Blah! Is he the ‘sexy pick’ or not?! That’s the analysis we’re looking for PFT! I guess we’ll have to wait for ESPN to tell us.

  30. didn’t you have a post yesterday that said you wouldn’t reveal picks before they were called?

  31. So much for not tipping picks. Sure this seemed pretty obvious but still. Social media really does have some really annoying downsides when it comes to sports.

  32. I know it’s your jobs to post football news, but didn’t you recently post an article about revealing picks? C’mon, man!

  33. To all the geniouses out there complaining. The poll was regarding the actual draft tv presentation tipping the picks. Don’t come to a news and rumors website or twitter and complain that people doing there jobs are doing there jobs. Find something else to do until 8 because teams aren’t going to wait until then and it is there JOBS to report stuff when it happens.

  34. dang it. I wanted him to stay in Michigan. if this report is true its still really cool to see a guy from a small school like central michigan going first overall. fire up chips!

  35. i hope the chiefs and other teams dont take the whole 10 min to put their picks up, i hate this new draft way, i miss the whole way, doing the first 3 rounds one day, then the next 4 rounds the next day, the nfl changed it just cause of money

    So funny.

    Lets try this another way.

    Geniuses , NOT geniouses
Their, NOT there(in the above context)
    Again, THEIR, NOT there

    Such Geniouses on this website.

  37. UPDATE:

My sources dispute this report – and they’re taking Joeckel

Heard it from his sister’s second cousin’s brother-in-law step granddaughter mother

  38. Fisher I believe is a better player than Joeckel. Joeckel played in front of Johnny Manziel who can make a lineman look better than he really is.

  39. Things i will be thankful for, when the draft is over so that i wont have to listen to Kiper et al spout of nonsense. Will watch bball in the interim wake me up in September.

  40. For anyone that cares, I plan to release my mock draft after this draft is over.

  41. Quit tipping picks you friggin’ idiots, the media has ruined the NFL Draft the last few years. I’d get more excitement out of it if I waited til tomorrow morning and went through a list of the picks & trades each team made.

TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE PFT, AND KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT

  42. If that happens, they won’t be trading Alberts Fisher is a right tackle in the N.F.L.

  43. It is laughably UNBELIEVABLE that you’d post that spoiler after posting the poll about ESPN and NFLN not spoiling the picks….

Thanks for letting me know before the draft starts that I should not be visiting your site again for the remainder of tonight.

  44. When the college season ended, Joeckel was the top tackle in the draft and you rarely heard anyone else’s name.

What has Fisher done since the last time he laced up the cleats to pass Joeckel?

  45. Hasn’t this site launched an ongoing crusade against spoiling draft picks? Hasn’t this site thrown hissy fits over NFLN and ESPN announcing picks ahead of time?

    Laughable.

  46. Gotta say-as a lifelong Bronco fan-Chiefs have made
some serious strides forward this offseason. If this
guy pans out, Reid regains his “genuis” status, especially if Alex Smith continues his rise as a quality QB

  47. Wow the talk since January was Joeckel. Talk since 2 years ago was Barkley. These prognosticators stink.

  48. Been a Chiefs fan for over 50 years. Really don’t give a rats ass who they draft. Don’t have a QB. Alex Smith SUCKS!!! Just another Matt Cassell. Until the GRIEFS get a QB they will NEVER be a consistent Playoff contender. Chances that will happen in my life time are fleeting rapidly!!

  49. Getting excited about an OT is like getting excited about your CPA. A good CPA can mean a big difference in your financial health, but you aren’t going to show’m off like a brand new sports car. Yet, it is the CPA who made you able to afford your sports car.

  50. IMO, it takes the fun out of the draft when picks are leaked. What’s the point of goodell announcing the pick if everybody already knows. What I think should happen is the first 2 rounds, no picks should be leaked until announced and the remaining rounds could be tweaked. It’s like watching a movie while someone is telling you what happens before it happens
