Giants add to offensive line run with Justin Pugh at 19

The Giants needed to add some youth to their offensive line, and found it with their first-round pick.

With the 19th overall selection, the Giants took Syracuse tackle Justin Pugh, who will likely begin inside at guard.

He can push David Diehl out of the starting lineup at right tackle eventually, if not now. The 32-year-old Diehl took a pay cut this offseason to stay, which might buy him some time.

They locked up left tackle Will Beatty prior to free agency, and now have another solid piece to protect Eli Manning.

  1. WOW. What a waste. This guy would have lasted until the second round. Worst 1st round pick since Ron Dayne.

  2. Lots of people are freaking out, but I’m real happy with the pick. There is a major need, and the kid plays Guard and Tackle. Guess folks need a headline grabber to brag to their little friends, which is why they dont like this pick.

You’re an idiot. He probably had the worst Senior Bowl game of everyone in attendance. He got absolutely steamrolled by everyone who lined up against him. The big east players OWNED HIM on nearly every play. Not to mention he’s got T-rex arms. You obviously know NOTHING about football. The guy is a low second rounder AT BEST. Do your homework.

  4. No real comment, just

    and let’s not forget

  5. Not a real sexy name OL, but it’s a clear message to David Diehl that he’s not starter material anymore.

    Good job Reese.

  6. My last name is Reese and you can trust that I just looked and RG3 and the REDSKINS ARE STILL NFC EAST CHAMPIONS and Old Stubby Armed Pugh won’t be able to help the Redskins from owning you!

At least there is more than one “logical voice” here.

    HTTR Baby!

  7. A solid pick. Keeps Eli clean and helps the run game as well. Hopefully we get some LB and CB help in the later rounds. Oh btw Logic, kinda sucks playing second fiddle to the Ravens in Maryland/DC huh?

  8. If you are used to an Eli with a clean jersey and like the fact that he is an ironman especially compared to the other scrub qbs in our division, then picks like Pugh….who can play anywhere on the line….is an absolute necessity.

  9. Florio managed to find the worst possible picture for Pugh’s upside, but I like the pick. Versatility on the o-line is great. He gets a year to develop into a guy who turned out to be pretty good to the G-Men David Diehl.

Love the Redskins fans turning out to support their team after having made the playoffs 4 times since 1993. Especially when those same Redskins fans were so quiet the last few seasons. Still am glad to be a Giants fans since we have won 2 Super Bowls in the past 6 seasons but at least Redskins fans are back in a division that has watched Big Blue succeed while the rest of the division has failed miserably since the 90s (Cowboys), 80s (Redskins) and 60s (Eagles).

  10. I would have rather picked up Ogletree or Rhodes, but the OL has been a long time coming, and Pugh addresses that need. Not the sexy pick, Olinemen never are, but a good one will pay dividends.

  11. He can play both guard and tackle. That’s great! Put him inside and cofield and company will eat him alive. Put him outside and orakpo and Kerrigan will eat him whole. HTTR, BEST QB IN THE NFCEAST, #marablows #amukamaraisababy #osakpoed

  12. I absolutely love the picture chosen here. The dude is getting plowed over by a Georgia lineman. Get used to seeing that image, giants fans.

  13. All-time series NYG leads 92-64-4[2]….. Nuff said, get your little shine on off your little taste of post season….. Y’all talk like y’all won the Super Bowl….. Worry about your qb staying healthy….

  14. “…and now have another solid piece to protect Eli Manning.”

They have the rights to their rookie draft pick, like all other teams; that’s it.. I’m not sure sure how Pugh can be considered a “solid piece” and a starter already considering, you know, he HASNT PLAYED IN THE NFL YET.

  15. It’s his versatility that makes this a good pick. Why is everyone putting this kid at OT indefinitely ? The G-men are aging across the whole O-line except for Beatty at LT and I would not be so sure he does not eventually end up on the interior. This seems to be one of Reese’s recent favored scouting attributes….O-line players who can play multiple positions. Booth , Cordle , Diehl, etc all can move around.

  16. As an Eagle fan that would be happy if the Giants went 0-16 i think they got an immediate starter on the right side. Diehl is done and Snee’s recovery from surgery do to the fact that he can’t seem to push himself away from the table, is not a given

  17. Like the pick. They needed to addres the Oline. Snee Boothe, Diehl all in 30’s. one year deals. Snee coming of hip surgery. This guy can play RT or LT possibly even center as per Flathery. With Brewer, Mosley Pugh McCants etc. We’ll see how things shape up. Youth will be needed soon. Diehl has been here since 2004. This guy could be here for a while too. As long as he keeps Eli upright I don’t care how “short” his arms are. Address the dee tonight! GO BLUE!
