He’s a day late, and in another city, but there’s finally reason for LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu to have a party.

The Cardinals just selected the talented but troubled Mathieu with the 69th overall pick.

Mathieu will have plenty of support in Arizona, as Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has become a mentor, training him through the offseason to prepare him for the Combine.

The Cards also drafted LSU linebacker Kevin Minter in the second round, adding another familiar face.

He’ll need all that, as he’s trying to make the most of a second chance, after multiple failed drug tests in college.

He can play, but that has never been the question. Having his name attached to a party in New York that was later cancelled (when it became embarrassing) was the latest smudge.

But the Cards are willing to take that chance, hoping his ability to cover receivers like Tavon Austin of the Rams makes up for the headaches.
