Niners take a Tank after trading down

Tank-Carradine

The 49ers said they know who they wanted at No. 34. And then they traded down to No. 40.

Chances are they’ll say they got the guy at 40 they would have taken at 34.

The Niners have drafted Florida State defensive end Cornellius “Tank” Carradine. But for a torn ACL suffered during the 2012 season, Carradine easily could have been a top-10 pick.

Since the 49ers don’t need to rush Carradine into the lineup, they can put him on scholarship for a year, allowing him to get back to 100 percent before making a contribution in 2014.

Carradine’s FSU teammate, defensive end Bjeorn Werner, landed with the Colts in the first round of the draft.
