Report: Eagles don’t want Tebow

Now that quarterback Tim Tebow is available, first via waivers and then if unclaimed as a free agent, it’s time to start listing the teams that don’t want him.

Let’s start with the Eagles, whose quarterback conga line is now officially as long as the Jets, at five.

According to Reuben Frank of, the Eagles have no interest in Tebow.

On the surface, Tebow’s running skills would make him a good fit for the Chip Kelly offense.  Then again, Matt Barkley’s lack of running skills would make him not a good fit, and yet the Eagles traded up to the top of round four to get him.

But here’s the likely reason why Kelly is passing on Tebow:  “In this league you need to be able to throw the football, and that’s the first skill set that we’re looking for,” Kelly said Saturday, via Frank. “Repetitive accuracy is the No. 1 quality we’re looking for.”

While Tebow at times has shown accuracy, there’s nothing “repetitive” about it.

  1. OK the Tebow overload is starting to get like watching sausage being made, a little of that goes a long way.

  2. this is what Chip Kelly wants from his QuaterBack.

“Every sack is the quarterback’s fault. It is not a sack if the quarterback throws the ball away. Nobody ever lost a game on an incomplete pass. Throw the ball away, and give us another opportunity to make a first down.”… “The job of a quarterback is simple. He has to ‘let it happen, and not make it happen.’ We want to move forward. That is a concept you have to make your team understand. The cardinal sin at our place is the quarterback sack. We want the ball out of the quarterback’s hands in 1.5 seconds. That does not mean holding the ball until 2.5, waiting for someone to get open.”

  3. And you once again show little to no understanding of Chip Kelly’s offense.

The ability to run is probably no higher than third on the list of needed qualities to run the read option.

Plus, like every other offensive system ever devised, the read option system requires a QB who is at least a threat to throw an accurate pass.

  4. It takes an incredibly feeble mind to keep repeating or implying the mediot’s mantra that Chip Kelly’s offense requires a running quarterback.

  5. Chip Kelly and the Eagles proved they are not going to be running the Read Option by drafting Matt Barkley.

Look for the Eagles to implement a Patriots style offense with Nick Foles as the starter.

Enough of the nonsense that the Eagles want a mobile QB.

They want a good QB and could not care less how mobile he is.

  6. I would of approached Tebow and told him,for a paycheck, nowhere near what he is making,The eagles will make you into a tight end or a fullback.A 2345 pound fullback is what they need. They always missed the boat on not having a back like Jacobs,Formerly from Philly, now in Wyoming,I namede my guinea pig tebow, then they traded him.My car is green and white

  7. I love all these geniuses who don’t think Tebow is a fit. How do they know what the offense is. Tebow has earned more respect than what he gets. He’s a winner, he’s a hard worker, a team player, a motivator, a good person too. There are never stories about him at strip clubs or with drugs or guns, the worst thing he does is pray. Can you imagine.? A guy who believes in God, a guy who does charity work and is humble? Nah we make fun if him and brutalize him, yet the honey badger is a touching story??? The way Tebow is treated is a microcosm of whats wrong with the world.

  8. I can tell you how Tebow doesn’t fit. He wants to play QB. He’s terrible at playing QB. Hence he doesn’t fit in any offense that uses a QB.

  9. There was a reason Barkley was free falling in the draft but leave it to college coach chip kelly to actually trade up and get a QB that no one wanted.

And now he has more QBs than any NFL team but none of them can play!

you just can’t make this stuff up.

  10. Teams now a days focus all about winning winning winning, and not about morals and characters. I am a die hard eagle fan, do i want a ring yes, but i would also be proud to say Tim Tebow was my quarter back. Why? He is a great roll model, he finds a way to win, and he stands by his beliefs. I believe he will be a elite quarter back some day because of sheer will and determination and any team that picks him up will be blessed to have him.
