The good news for Collin Klein is that he has found an NFL team willing to give him a shot at playing quarterback. The bad news is that he’s a fifth-string quarterback.

Klein, the former Kansas State star who wasn’t taken in the draft, will play quarterback for the Texans, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports. Most observers thought that if Klein had any hope of playing in the NFL, he’d have to change positions. He was asked to work out with the tight ends at the Scouting Combine, but he insisted that he wants to play quarterback.

Unfortunately for Klein, he’s got an uphill battle just to make the team. At this point, he’s fifth on the depth chart behind Matt Schaub, T.J. Yates, Case Keenum and Stephen McGee.

If Klein looks good in minicamps and Organized Team Activities, he has a shot at making the team as the No. 3 quarterback. But it’s much more likely that he’ll be gone four months from now.
