The Bengals have signed one of the fastest players to come out of college this year, but they’re asking him to switch sides of the ball.

The team announced some undrafted rookie signings yesterday, but according to Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website, the team is also signing a few more, including Auburn RB Onterio McCalebb, who is being converted to cornerback.

McCalebb got everyone’s attention at the Combine when he ran his 40s in unofficial times of 4.27 and 4.21 seconds (though his “official” times were ratcheted down to a merely blazing 4.34).

That still makes the 5-foot-11, 173-pound McCalebb one of the fastest guys in the league, and worth the small risk that comes with an undrafted rookie deal. If they can channel that speed, he might at least be useful as a return man.
