Report: Raiders not considering Vince Young

The Raiders are no longer a potential suitor for free-agent quarterback Vince Young, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.

The Raiders added Tyler Wilson to their QB depth chart on the final day of the NFL draft, and Wilson’s arrival closes the door on Young being a fit in Oakland, Rapoport said. The Raiders also have Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor at quarterback.

Rapoport also reported that Young is “not interested” in the Canadian Football League. The Montreal Alouettes hold Young’s rights, but general manager Jim Popp has told multiple media outlets that Young, were he to join the club, would back up current starter Anthony Calvillo.

Young, whom we added to our All-Unemployed Team on Wednesday, has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game since 2011 with Philadelphia. The Bills released him last August.

Young, who turns 30 later this month, is still relatively young for a quarterback. It’s hard to believe he wouldn’t get another look from an NFL team at some point. However, the draft may well have taken away some of the opportunities that could have been available to him.

  1. Man it’s refreshing how the raiders are staying quiet. No dumb arrest no dumb picks or fa signings. I’m proud to be a raider fan. Big reg is the man. He got two extra picks in the draft by outsmarting two other gms and atleast half his picks will be longterm starters on the raiders.

The “experts” said menelik watson is either a superstar or bust but either way reg got that pick for free.

The de situation was stirred up by the “experts”. I honestly thought we needed a cb better than a de. Our db s where the worst last year and the nation could see that. Big reg knows he ll find a diamond in the rough for Dr but our dbs needed help and big reg came through…..what was this article about?

  2. Knowing Jamarcus Russell was working on a comeback, if I were Young, I would seriously reconsider that Canuck League.

  3. I don’t understand why Seattle or SF, or even Washington don’t seriously consider Young. Those teams need a player like Young to come in and run an offense that Young is very proficient at running.

The backups for those teams – McCoy, Quinn etc – don’t integrate as well and someone like Young.

For that matter, Seneca Wallace is another QB who would be a better backup for all those teams.

  4. Had they been interested they would have pulled the trigger months ago. RM is on an average age signing of 27 yrs old and less. Obviousely the future is part of along term plan as well. No more aging veterans with attitudes and no tread on the tires, they gone!

  5. The fact that he won’t consider the CFL speaks volumes. Vince Young doesn’t want to play. He wants to collect a hefty paycheck as an NFL backup.

  6. Young?????? Thank you Reggie for not considering him! Next is Pryor, he’s not an NFL QB, either! R-A-I-D-E-R-S!!!!!!!
Looks like Reggie does know football!

  7. It’s hard to believe a team won’t take him? Really? What’s to like about him? Is it his 57% pass completion percentage? His QB rating of 74? His 51 ints versus 46 Tds? His poor attitude? His questionable decision making skills? His immaturity?

Yeah. Really hard to believe a team would pass on this putz.

  8. Is anyone considering Vince Young?

Another outstanding college talent that couldn’t hack it as a pro.

  9. At 30 Young is “relatively young” for a QB, but Brandon Weeden gets all the “senior citizen” jokes at 29.

    Makes total sense…I guess.

  10. They don’t want an astounding athelete who scored 7 on the wonderlic?! Al Davis really is gone, isn’t he?

  11. If Young is relatively young at 30, why is Brandon Weeden old at 29?

  12. “The Raiders are no longer a potential suitor for free-agent quarterback Vince Young, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday.”

This is a nice way of saying “We screwed up, the Raiders were never interested in Vince Young.”

  13. Vince should seriously reconsider signing on into the Canuck League.
Since, Jamarcus Russell is working on a comeback.

  14. As a former Vince Young fan, I actually like the idea of VY going to Washington. Being RGIII’s back-up might be exactly what he needs. Vince could see how a real leader and student of the game carries himself. If Vince would truly humble himself (not posing for the cameras like going public with his apology to Jeff Fisher) and learn from someone like Griffin (clearly Vince’s mental and emotional superior), VY could perhaps revive his NFL career after all.

  15. I am shocked that the Raiders dont want to try another headcase mobile QB after their experiences with JaMarcus Bustell.

  16. Vince Young would be an upgrade for the Vikings, the Jaguars, and would be a good back up for the Panthers, or the Bears, but not for the Raiders
    we don’t need any distractions.
