The Eagles are moving to a 3-4 defense and they visited with a player Thursday who could be an option at outside linebacker if he winds up signing in Philadelphia.

Former Patriot Trevor Scott met with the team and, per Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, took a physical before leaving without a contract. The Eagles have signed Connor Barwin at the position this offseason and are moving players like Trent Cole and Brandon Graham from defensive end.

Scott would be making a similar move after playing defensive end for the Patriots last year. Scott had three sacks for the Patriots while playing on a little more than 20 percent of the team’s defensive snaps and also played a role on New England’s special teams units. Scott played four years in Oakland before heading to New England, picking up 13.5 sacks for the Raiders.

With Cole, Graham, Barwin and others already in the fold, it’s unclear whether the Eagles are looking for more help now or are just checking out Scott in the event they decide they need help down the line. Since he left without a contract, the best guess is that they’ll see what they have on hand before looking for more help elsewhere.
