The Patriots successfully claimed rookie running back Akeem Shavers on waivers from Tampa Bay on Tuesday. The move was disclosed in the NFL’s daily transactions and also announced by New England.

In his senior season at Purdue in 2012, the 23-year-old Shavers rushed for 871 yards and six touchdowns on 181 carries. The Buccaneers waived him Monday after agreeing to terms with him a week earlier.

Shavers (5-11, 203) joins six other running backs on the Patriots’ roster, with Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden, LeGarrette Blount, Leon Washington and James Develin the other players at the position.

In another roster move disclosed in the NFL’s Tuesday transactions, the Patriots added undrafted rookie running Quentin Hines to injured reserve after he was waived-injured Monday.

  1. I was expecting to see comments about how the Patriots must be cheating again as they are stashing Quinton Heines on IR

Oh the Evil Hoodie & Empire !!

  2. I know Schiano and Bill are tight but it looks like Bill is manipulating and turning the Bucs into the minor league Pats.

Eh, if you weren’t NE, everyone would be ragging on you for being “desperate” enough to pick up a camp body, so it all evens out. Good teams do the same things everyone else does and are “evil”. Bad/mediocre teams do the same things everyone else does and are “desperate losers”.

  5. Washington will likely be primarily a kick returner unless they’re a lot of injuries, maybe some 3rd down duty.

Ridley, Vereen, Bolden and Blount will make the roster, one of the other 2 may make the practice squad.

  6. In other news tom brady still claims he “doesn’t poop”.
