One of the unsigned members of PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100 looks to be drawing some interest.
Kick returner/wide receiver Josh Cribbs is slated to visit the Jets, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday evening. Cribbs, who turns 30 in June, has played the previous eight seasons with the Browns.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders offered Cribbs a contract after he met with them Monday. Also, Cribbs -- who had offseason knee surgery -- passed a physical, Rapoport said.
One of the NFL’s top all-around performers on special teams, Cribbs has returned eight kickoffs and three punts for touchdowns since entering the league in 2005. The eight kickoff-return scores are an NFL record he shares with the Patriots’ Leon Washington. In 2012, Cribbs was fourth in the league in kickoff-return average (27.4 yards) and sixth in punt-return average (12.0).
Cribbs has also shown an ability to contribute on offense on the NFL level, catching 107 passes for 1,161 yards and seven scores and rushing for 753 yards and two TDs on 128 carries in his career. The former collegiate quarterback could appeal to teams both as a core special teams player and a reserve wideout capable of running or throwing out of “Wildcat” or direct-snap packages.
