Karlos Dansby to visit Cardinals

AP

The Arizona Cardinals are already set to be without linebacker Daryl Washington for the first four games of the season due to a substance-abuse violation. It could be even longer after Washington was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault for an attack against his former girlfriend last week.

The possible extended void in the middle of the Cardinals defense has prompted the Cardinals look into contingency plans. At the top of the list is a player the franchise is very familiar with. According to Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 in Phoenix, Karlos Dansby is expected to meet with the Cardinals on Wednesday. Dansby played his first six seasons with the Cardinals.

Dansby was released by the Miami Dolphins in March. Since then he has taken visits to the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills but has remained without a job for next season. With Washington’s suspension, the Cardinals could hedge their best with Dansby as a fallback option. The Cardinals drafted inside linebacker Kevin Minter out of LSU in the second round as well and he could factor into the depth at the position.

Dansby has recorded 332 tackles and six sacks over the last three seasons for the Dolphins.

  1. I’m really surprised this guy doesn’t have a job yet. He’s not Patrick Willis or anything, but he’s a solid ILB. With the amount of teams switching to the 3-4, and teams with ILB needs in general, suprising he doesn’t have a gig yet

His contract demands must be way out of whack. If I’m him, I look for a starting job on the best team possible, and take another crack at the FA market next year

  2. It would be a good signing for the Cards. Can’t believe Ireland cut him (saved like $2.5-3 mil) just so he can pay Ellerbe $7 mil a year.

  3. Quality player… just a pain in the arse to deal with, hence the lack of interest in him. Oh, and his demand for big money. That, too.

  4. This makes sense. Dansby is highly productive. If it weren’t for the rookie cap he would have been signed five times over since the start of free agency. Based on my experience as a fan of an NFC West team, he aught to be a damn legend in AZ.

  5. This move would make perfect sense. Especially if Washington is suspended for more than 8 games.

Even if Washington was in no trouble at all, they need to load up defensively.

  6. This would be a good pick up. I wanted him before Washington got into all of his legal problems… Dansby can still play. As with everything else it will come down to money. I hope the Cards get this deal done.

  7. Decent fallback. Washington IMO is the 3rd best ILB in the league. If not he is definitely top 5. Unfortunately for him and the cards though it sorta looks like they are gonna have to make a tough choice they don’t want to

  8. I don’t really understand the lack of interest in him…He’s a good linebacker that gives you 100+ tackles every year, even though he may not be the best in coverage…His price has to have come down by now and yeah he does the occasional dumb thing, but he’s got the talent to be a difference-maker

  9. Washington was drafted to replace Dansby cause Ansby want money that didn’t make since for AZ then. As is probably why he isn’t signed yet as we’ll. I like Dansby and remember hin in AZ he and Dockett were monsters together. Hopefully he sign with AZ. AZ drafed him and there should be a thank you for that and give us another shot.
