Former LSU safety Chad Jones’ promising NFL career was put on hold thanks to a terrible car accident that left him badly injured shortly after the Giants made him a third-round pick in the 2010 draft.
Jones has worked hard over the last three years to rehabilitate his leg and remained in touch with both the Giants and other teams, but he’s decided to call an end to his attempt to make it back onto the football field. Fletcher Mackel of WDSU in New Orleans reports that Jones has officially put his comeback efforts to a stop, but only as it relates to football.
Jones will now try to resume the baseball career that was also left dormant over the last few years. Jones won the 2009 College World Series at LSU, making him a national champion in two sports during his time at Baton Rouge, and was good enough to get drafted in the 13th round by the Astros out of high school. He also was drafted by the Brewers in the 50th round of the 2010 draft as a left-handed pitcher.
It would be a fairly remarkable turn of events if Jones were able to make it back to the mound at a high level, a goal that his tenacity makes seem more possible than it probably should.
