Former Patriots, Saints CB Randall Gay arrested

The offseason is a worrisome time for NFL players, even when they’re not NFL players any longer.

According to Jim Kleinpeter of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, former Patriots and Saints cornerback Randall Gay was arrested after a disturbance at a Baton Rouge bar.

Gay was charged with entry or remaining on premises when forbidden, two counts of simple battery, resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by public intoxication. Which is a lot of words for what sounds like a bar fight.

Police also arrested a woman, Desha Penco, for interfering with police officer and simple damage to property when she tried to kick out the window of the police car. Penco is listed as Gay’s wife in his Saints bio.

Both were released on bond this morning.

Gay won a national championship at LSU, and a pair of Super Bowls in the NFL. He retired after the 2010 season, which he finished on injured reserve after suffering a concussion.

  1. Rather than a bar fight, this sounds to me like he was thrown out of a bar, came back in, and argued with the cop who came to “escort” him out.

I do not speak from experience here. The few times I was thrown out of bars many years ago, I decided that discretion was the better part of valor and stayed thrown out. In other words, I knew I’d get my a** kicked but good if I went back in.

  2. Typical Patriot… I’m sure Belichek has a tape of the incident…

  3. Given his reason for retirement, I’m sure this episode will be blamed on brain damage pretty soon.

  4. Obviously concussion related symptoms. He’s still reeling from the hit AP laid on hit when he was a Steeler.

  5. Only one arrest? This dude’s an amateur.

  6. Not his fault. Gregg Williams and Jonathan Vilma called him and told him it was worth $5k to take out the cops ankle.
