The Lions started signing draft picks on Wednesday by locking up four of their draftees and they’re keeping up the pace on Thursday.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press reports that the team has agreed to a contract with guard Larry Warford, who was a third-round pick last month. He’s the highest selection from this year’s draft to sign at this point.

In his draft day visit with the Rams for Sports Illustrated, Peter King learned that Warford was a possibility with the Rams as they maneuvered their way down the draft board late in the first round. They would up taking linebacker Alec Ogletree and the plus-sized (6-foot-3, 332 pounds) Kentucky guard fell to Detroit on the second day.

That could work out well for Warford, as the Lions have a hole at right guard that Warford would fit well. If his run blocking skills carry over to the NFL, you’d expect to see Lions backs following him up the middle right from the start of his NFL career.
