McKinnie deal with Ravens worth almost $7 million

AP

Bryant McKinnie didn’t want to leave Baltimore, but the two-year contract he signed to remain with the Ravens underlines the hard time free agents have had getting paid this offseason.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, McKinnie’s deal has a base value of $6.3 million with incentives that could push it close to $7 million.

The 33-year-old left tackle got a $2 million bonus and $1 million in base salary this year. Next season, the Ravens have to decide whether to give him a $500,000 roster bonus and a $2 million salary.

There are workout bonuses of $200,000 each year, along with $200,000 reporting bonuses, which should provide some incentive for him to show up on time and in shape, which hasn’t always been the case.

  1. almost 10% of his contract is linked to workouts and reporting, gives you an idea of how seriously he takes the game 🙂

  2. as usaual marylands best team fills another hole
while the other loser team waits for another pathetic season!!!!

  3. Another brilliant move keeping a Superbowl winner without jeopardizing the rest of the team. Ozzie is a magician. Poor Steelers, they’re broke!

  4. @Steely
Typical Steelers fan anointing a player before he’s even taken a snap… You did see how “owned” BigMac was in the playoffs last year right? And that was against proven talent. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t bother to watch last years playoffs since your 8-8 disaster didn’t make it in…

  5. To everyone who says flacco takes up too much cap. 2013 salary is 6.8 million. Manning has like 15 brees 20 rodgers has 40 this season.
So where is all the hate towards them?
Lol just because ur team sucks and didnt win the superbowl u het butt hurt.

  6. It also helped that he visited the Chargers, who immediately made him an offer. It implies that McKinnie had overvalued his worth, and the Ravens’ offer was as good as he was going to get. Had the Chargers’ offer been significantly higher, surely he would have taken it.

  7. Great price for a proven LT that has great talent but likes to eat cheesey puffs. Dude has huge upside when in shape and focused, incentive based contract for a superbowl LT.

  8. $7M will pay for __________.

    (a) 70,000 lap dances at $100 per
    (b) 1,750,000 Big Macs at $4 per
    (c) a lot of Jenny Craig meals/sessions

Hint: The correct answer is not (c)

  9. congrats on the regular season win logical. you can come by and look at our sb trophy. been a long time since marylands 4th best team has seen one

  10. The Steelers shut that pathetic offense down twice last season. Look for it to get worse because Jumpball Joe doesn’t have any WR’s. Ike Taylor will lock Torrey Smith down again. 0 catches.

  11. Ike Taylor has about as much chance as catching Torrey Smith as Ike Turner.

  12. About the article, the contract is interesting but without context I don’t know how to evaluate it. I would love to know where he ranks in the LT salary scale. He clearly stepped up at the right time but I’m just not so sure his heart is into it.

  13. Torrey Smith has about as much chance of burning Ike Taylor as Torrey Spelling.
