Geno Smith gives himself an F for his first day on the job

Geno

Finally, Jets quarterback Geno Smith had a chance to get away from the everything that isn’t football and focus on football.

Sort of.

Offseason workouts, while the closest thing to football before the launch of training camp, give first-year players a chance to show what they can do. For most, it comes via a rookie minicamp, with all draft picks, undrafted free agents, and tryout-basis players practicing at the same time.

Smith, a second-round pick, spent Friday practicing at the NFL level for the first time. And he didn’t like his performance.

Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Smith said he’d give himself an F for his first practice. Isn’t that a little rough?

“I want to be A+ in everything,” Smith said, explaining that he’s his on harshest critic.

Smith also said that he’s a “natural leader” and that he’s been “studying my butt off.”

The humility is encouraging, but here’s hoping he’s the only one consistently deeming his work as worthy of an F.
