Browns waiving safety Eric Hagg

The Browns will waive safety Eric Hagg, Adam Caplan of reported Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Hagg appeared in 12 games for Cleveland in 2012, starting three games at free safety and one at strong safety. A Nebraska product, Hagg was a seventh-round pick of Cleveland in 2011.

The reported departure of Hagg continues the Browns’ reworking of their safety corps. Earlier in the offseason, the club released Usama Young, who started 10 games at free safety and one at strong safety in 2012.

With Hagg and Young gone, second-year pro Tashaun Gipson now becomes the most experienced option at free safety. T.J. Ward is the starter at strong safety.

  1. He’s young. Bet some team picks him up and gives him a shot to earn a spot in training camp–even if just on Practice Squad.

  2. Hagg had his oppotunity. If he would have been as aggressive at safety as he was on special teams, he’d still have a job with the Browns.

  3. Seems like an odd move if they don’t need the roster spot. He’s not making much money and has been decent on special teams.

He musta went and did somethin’… Or maybe they’re getting ready to announce a new roster addition.

  4. Is Kerry Rhodes still a FA, guessing this might be opening the door for him. Horton was his DC last year, and is now the Browns DC

  5. Would LOVE to see Kerry Rhodes in a Browns uniform TJ Ward needs a legitimate FS next to him instead of scrubs we’ve had since they drafted him. That’s when I think we see TJ start to look better

  6. Donte Whitner coming home??

He had tweeted something about Clevelanders get ready for news.

  7. I won’t miss Hagg, his sub par speed and his terrible angles allowing several TD’s…he’s far from a Starting Caliber safety. However, this seems awfully early to cut the guy, guess the coaching staff thinks he’s that bad.

  8. Johnson Bademosi needs to see a lot more of the field for the Browns this year. He looked very good in limited opportunities last year, specifically the Cowboys’ game.
