Vick still thinks he’s the fastest quarterback in the NFL

No matter how many young and fast quarterbacks enter the NFL, Michael Vick isn’t prepared to say any are faster than him.

Vick said on the Dan Patrick Show that he still believes that when it comes to running full-speed in the open field, he’s faster than San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick, Washington’s Robert Griffin III or any other NFL quarterback.

“These guys are young and they’re fast and they’re quick, the thing I do have is a very quick get-up,” Vick said. “I really don’t feel like there’s a quarterback in the league who can beat me in a 40-yard dash. If somebody wants to set something up, I’ll be more than glad to accept the challenge. But as of right now I’m going to say me. But Colin Kaepernick is fast and RG3 is fast as well.”

Although Vick is coming off a disappointing season and will turn 33 next month, he may be right: Vick still averaged 5.4 yards a carry for the Eagles in 2012, and he can still beat Eagles running back LeSean McCoy in a footrace. Vick has every reason to be confident in his speed.

  6. People only care about the 40 yard dash for draft PROSPECTS, not veteran NFL players. Vick should worry more about leading, throwing, and not fumbling.

  8. He also thinks he can read defenses, he doesn’t hold the ball too long, he’s the best QB in the league, blah blah blah……nobody really cares. Vick may be an athlete but he has never been an NFL quality QB and never will be.

  10. This is my problem with Michael Vick… what he chooses to focus on. How about being recognized as the most efficient QB instead of the fastest – at that point your speed would destroy!

  13. he must need to spend a lot more time in the video room then reviewing film. kappernick, rg3 and Wilson are all much faster than him at this point in his career.

I don’ like Vick at all, but I do like sports, and the fact is, he may have some kind of a point– Kaep and the Third are both kind of long-striders, whereas Vick still has that kind of quickness and agility in him. As in– he might be able to beat them in a 20 yard shuttle, but both Griff and Kaepernick would rock him in a flat out hundred.

  18. I hear he can still lasso and hog tie a pitt bull in just under 6 seconds….it takes him a little longer to properly drown them and give them his herpes, but it’s still a respectable time for an old guy…all things considered.

  21. Always focusing on how fast he can run or how many rushing yards he can get. That’s one reason why he sucks as a qb.

  25. Millerhour – RG3 is an Olympic caliber hurdler. INCREDIBLY impressive but we’re not talking 100 meters here. Yes RG3, and Russell Wilson, etc are TWICE the QB Vick is, but please know oh young ones, that a young Vick is one of the fastest men that has ever played this game. Forget Quarterback, he’s one of the fastest players ever. Too bad, that’s all he’s kind of had even though he has an absolute rifle of an arm.

  26. These are the types of things that can replace the lame ass Pro Bowl….The whole thing can be replaced by skills competitions. Use winning the events as a monetary incentive to the players so they’ll participate…I know there is still the risk of injury but the league is full of show offs and they all want to one up each other so why not use that to the leagues advantage for once…

  29. Dan Patrick asked him the question out of left field. Vick tried to deflect the question and was in middle of giving the proper diplomatic answer when Dan cut him off in mid-sentence and said ‘Just say you’re the fastest, Michael.’ Vick took the bait and tried to be playful for the sake of good radio.

    There’s no story here, people.

  32. Will this guy be quiet until the season starts? I seriously hope Foles or Barkley gives him a wake up call and beats him out in camp..

  37. Mike Vick of 2001 one could be, but time takes it toll on bodies. Say what you want about those three but you would need to includeTerrell Pryor on that list. In high school track he was running 4.4. 40’s. At Ohio State he was the fastest on the entire team at 4.3, and he also ran 4.3 on his pro day….Kapernick ran a 4.5 , and RG3 ran a 4.4.

    Fact is TP ran just as fast as Vick, and no doubt that a younger TP, would probably beat an older Vick today…might be to close to call, but fun to watch.

  40. I couldn’t be happier with my qb being the absolute slowest in the league. Leave it to the others to collect 40 time trophies. Mine collects shiny silver footballs.

  44. Vicks times were better at the 40 than those named and his burst and cutting are better than all of them. Vick agility and moves destroy all of them. to bad he didn’t pit the work in to be a smart qb to which those others did. I think kellys offense will make him excel problem is it might be a little to late. his other teams focused to much on his running or. of enough. to bad the pistol was never tried with him.

  46. Well.. maybe ol’ Roger will get rid of the pro bowl, bring back the skills competition, and integrate a 40 yard dash in it. They could have different brackets for different positions (i.e. QB bracket, RB, WR, etc). The winners of those brackets get a little something, and then they have a final 40 yarder for the championship, and the crown of fastest man in the NFL.

    Vick at 20. Vick at 30. Vick at 40,–barely– with Kaep and RG closing fast. Longer than that, Vick would be left in the dust by a large margin.

  58. I don’t see anything wrong here with what he said. He did not say I’m a great qb because I’m the quickest, he was asked a question about being the quickest qb and like any man with pride, said yes I am. You can teach speed you have it or you don’t. And it wasn’t that long ago everyone was ooohing and aaahing at his on field play. And I don’t care who you are when your basically playing behind a semi-pro o-line your gonna beat up and make bad decisions because your trying to do too much and compensate for a piss poor line. And I’m not a fan of Vick or the eagles.

  59. well, he recently said chip Kelly, his new coach told him how to hold the ball better… a wow, I could’ve had a v-8, moment. Maybe his new coach told he is the fastest and that is more important than being a good qb

  62. Don’t know if he’s the fastest but if he is looking for exclusivity in the NFL, he is only QB that is a convicted felon and dog killa.

    The Eagles will never amount to anything with Vick at Qb. The sooner they get rid of him, the better off they will be.

  81. Vick’s off field curricular hurt his career terribly. Not to mention the fact that he was misguided in the coaching of his game. Vick should have been one of the most productive QB’s in NFL history.
    Though to sit around like my 6 year old and say “I’m faster than you “is belittling himself. He never was no RGIII ….The intelligence, and passion for the game for vick was/is on sub-zero compared to RGIII.
    HTTR!!!

    3. Vick is obviously a lot faster then all the dogs he killed.
    4. Just because the media gives him a pass (I’m sure the nfl has told them never to bring up the dog thing again) don’t forget who this guy truly is…

    You are right about one thing. Vick won’t choke in the playoffs because he will never lead a team there again.
