The Raiders provided a bit more information about the abdominal injury that sent first-round pick D.J. Hayden to the hospital.

Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group reports that Hayden was admitted to the hospital late last week and had a procedure to clear out scar tissue from his abdomen. There’s no update about when he might get out of the hospital, although the Raiders still expect that he’ll be okay to return to the team for training camp.

When Hayden’s trip to the hospital was initially reported, there was no answer about whether or not the abdominal issue was somehow related to the torn inferior vena cava in the heart that Hayden suffered while at the University of Houston. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times spoke to Hayden’s doctor and reports that the doctor said his understanding is that the current hospitalization is not connected to the heart injury.

We hope that’s the case because Hayden appears to have a bright football future in front of him and it would be a shame for it to be compromised after Hayden already beat the worst possible outcome for an injury that is often fatal.
