Jason Peters missed OTAs for “personal reasons”

When word broke that Eagles tackle Jason Peters wasn’t with the rest of the team at OTAs this week, plenty of people wondered why Peters would be absent.

Could it have something to do with the Eagles docking him $3.25 million after last year’s Achilles injury? Coach Chip Kelly said he knew where Peters was, but offered no more detail about the whereabouts than he did about injuries. Owner Jeffrey Lurie was a bit more forthcoming on Wednesday, however, and his comments on Peters’ absence remove any intrigue from the situation.

“Jason’s great. Jason’s really in great shape. He’s got his own personal reasons that he can’t be here, and I actually empathize with him,” Lurie said, via Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Peters has drawn praise from the Eagles’ coaches about his recovery from that Achilles injury and Peters appears set for a return to the left tackle job in 2013 as long as he can stay healthy. His absence from workouts this week created some questions, although there don’t figure to be any more after Lurie’s assurance that Peters and the Eagles are on the same page about things.
