Robert Griffin III’s return from knee surgery has hit another milestone.

Griffin has been cleared to start running and told reporters that he did cross-field sprints without any problems on Thursday. Griffin said that he also recently ran two miles at an OTA that was not open to the media as he continues down a road he hopes leads to a start in Week One of the regular season. Griffin pledged to remain “patiently aggressive” on that road for the rest of the offseason.

“It’s been a journey,” Griffin said, via Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com. “Everyone gets to see the flowers and roses side of it -- out here running, throwing, feeling good about it, having a little energy, bounce in your step. But I’ve had to be patiently aggressive this whole time . Just let my body heal and be aggressive where I can.”

Griffin also said that he’s found a bit of a silver lining to his stay on the sideline. He’s doing as much film study as he can and believes he’s doing a better job of reading defenses because the game slowed down for him “because I had to slow down.” There’s still going to be time for Griffin to focus on those things as he still needs to progress through “explosive” sprinting and cutting, which he hopes to be cleared for in the next month, before he’s going to be given the full green light.
