Freeney: I’ve envisioned hitting Peyton millions of times

Peyton Manning and Dwight Freeney were teammates for 10 years in Indianapolis, but now that Manning is in Denver and Freeney is in San Diego, they’ll play against each other for the first time this season. And Freeney is licking his chops.

Freeney said on XTRA Sports 1360 in San Diego that after all those years of lining up against Manning in practice but knowing he could never put a hand on the team’s starting quarterback, it will be fun to play full-speed against Manning this year.

“It would definitely be great to get after him,” Freeney said. “He’s a great competitor, I’m a great competitor. How many times have I envisioned hitting him during practice, when he had that five-yard halo around him and you couldn’t go in that circle? Millions of times. So it would be fun to get after him a little bit.”

Freeney said he loved playing with Manning and considers him to be like family. But Manning should be ready for a rough game of family football.

  1. Too bad the Broncos have Ryan Clady and Freeney doesn’t stand a chance of getting around him these days…
    Keep dreaming, Dwight.

  2. Manning will fall down if Freeney comes within 3 feet of him!!

    *************************************************

    So would I!

  3. If Dwight’s game matches his mouth thus far, Peyton should probably be worried.

  4. Peyton will get rid of the ball so quick that Dwight will still be in his 3 point stance.

  5. Freeney’s game was always best when he was (1) ahead in the game because of Peyton’s offense and (2) on the SpeedTurf o’ Indy.

I don’t think San Diego will be massively up on Denver anytime this season. And both teams play on grass…

  6. I would love to see this. Both are class acts and I’m sure if this happens they will have a laugh about it, with Manning playfully slapping Freeney’s helmet (or some sort of gesture that shows respect).

Not only will Freeney get two shots at Manning this season, but he will also get to face his former team, where he is their all-time leader in sacks, and Andrew Luck on MNF.

To put the icing on the cake, it would be cool to see Freeney get the sack, force the fumble, and recover the fumble on both Manning and Luck.

  7. You know, I’ve never said, “I’m a great….whatever”. Do these grown men know what that sounds like? Usually when someone has to say, out loud, that they are “Great” it ends up not being true.

  8. Wondering if Freeney just needed a change of scenery, he has been super salty and chatty lately.

Could SD have gotten a steal? After all we are talking about a guy who made a living on being relentless…

    Hmmm…..

  9. You can keep envisioning it 16 million more times as that is how much more he makes than you and teams were lining up to sign him. How did FA work for you?

  10. He is one of the most overrated players of all time. Look at his tackle totals! 266 tackles in 11 seasons. Can you tackle a running back occasionally ? 10 tackles in 14 games last year. Guy is a lazy quitter.

  11. Chargers suck. Lol. Nice job signing a has been bolts. Keep showing everyone how not to win a superbowl. Or even get there for that matter

  12. Freeney said the same thing when both were on the Colts, so this isn’t something new. He talked about how the QBs are always protected and how as a DL, he didn’t like that and wanted to get a chance to hit him. The sentiment has been there, though I suppose he explained it better (and it went over better) when he and Peyton were teammates.

  13. File under stupid things you should not say and will get brought up again every time Peyton throws a touchdown while Freeney is laying on his back because he got chopped down.

  14. This kind of a friend of a friend story but …

A friend of mine’s brother-in-law has game film of himself sacking Joe Montana in a high school game.

  15. So many drama queens around. Who cares if he said he envisioned hitting Peyton during practice when the QB’s were not allowed to be hit? What defensive minded player wouldn’t want to hit a QB they have been kept from hitting for nearly a decade? He says Peyton is like family yet some people act like that was never said and he is just some crazy guy spouting off. Not the case at all here and I’m no fan of Freeney, Broncos, or the Chargers.

I wonder if Freeney wants to hit Peyton for all those times the defense stepped up in the playoffs and Peyton STILL let them down.

Exactly which playoff games are you referring to when the defense stepped up and Peyton let them down?

Was the loss to the Jets in 2010 when he led them on a winning drive only to have the defense and special teams let the Jets scored in 1 minute. Or was it the 2009 SB when the defense couldn’t stop the Saints in the 2nd half?

  17. What ever you do Dwight, do NOT pull that Fred Flintsone-sized head down on top of you.

  18. he wont get a chance after the RAVENS are done
    with him !!!!!

  19. Freeney: I’ve envisioned hitting Peyton millions of times

Wow! That’s quite an admission. I didn’t know that Freeney has ‘come out’ yet. It must have been very difficult for him to be in the shower with Peyton all those years while he fantasized about an encounter with Manning.

Personally, Ive fantasized about hitting Sade millions of times, but hey – whatever floats your boat!

  21. LOL..you donkey fans are hilarious. Had Freeney wound up with you guys (like every single one of you wanted including Manning) you’d be telling us how Rivers is going to be killed this year. But he’s a Bolt, so he’s “a scrub” lmao. Get ready for another one and done season donk fans…your QB specializes in it!

First off, calling Broncos fans “donkey fans” is extremely lame.

Secondly, no one wanted Freeney. That’s why he’s a Charger.
