John Harbaugh to Obama: We plan to see you next year, too

Reuters

The Baltimore Ravens took the traditional trip to the White House for the Super Bowl champions today, and coach John Harbaugh used the opportunity to say that his team expects to repeat.

“I want you to know we have plans to be here next year, too,” Harbaugh told the president, via the Baltimore Sun.

Obama also had warm words for the Super Bowl-winning coach.

“I want to congratulate John Harbaugh, an outstanding coach,” Obama said.

The president drew laughter when he took note of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco’s decision to turn down a contract extension last year and instead capitalize on hitting free agency this year. Flacco signed a six-year, $120 million contract a month after winning the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.

“Joe was named the game’s MVP,” Obama said. “Good timing with that contract, huh?”

Flacco will have to earn that money for the Ravens to return to the White House in 2014.

  1. Ya know, I believe Harbaugh is the first coach to share that sentiment upon his White House visit. Kudos for originality, coach!

  2. Easy there playboy! You lost some serious talent and it’s time for my Cowboys to get #6!

  3. Loved watching this. Anyone notice when Harbs said that quote that Ed Reed jokingly coughed in the background as to suggest the Texans might think otherwise.? lol Best part was seeing my hero OJ Bridgance in attendance.

  4. With Ray Ray off the team I wasn’t expecting they’d need any more pardons.

  5. I’m pretty sure your brother Jim has a LOT to say about this…..

    Signed,
    49ers fans

  6. Bring the wife, the kids, only about 30 minutes away.

…just make sure that sequester thing has been cleared up first. They may not be doing tours.

  7. I don’t know who will win next year’s super bowl, but I know who it’s won’t be – the Redskins. One of the oldest rosters in the league, a busted up quarterback, and a washed up coach. #BurgundyandGoldSubStandard

sorry but that’s just never going to happen with #9 at the helm, biggest choke artist in NFL history…

  9. Great comment by a great coach. Underdogs all through the playoffs seemed to work out ok. Anyone who looks at the last 5 years and doesn’t Think the only goal in bmore is to compete for world championships each year is fooling themselves. Come december, 5 and the new and improved d will be right in the hunt for another Superbowl.

Suck it haters because black and purple ain’t going nowhere but up!!!!!

  10. What a delusional fool.

And you know you’re a joke of a franchise if the most ridiculed person in America is ripping your contract decisions.

  11. What did you expect him to say? No coach worth his will say anything different.

  12. He said they have plans to be back, not that they’d necessarily be seeing Obama. Because by that time, it could be President Joe Biden in office.

  13. Your not going to see the inside of that house because you are gonna have to actually coach a team this year. your ride is over must be nice handed a team when you started. also FLUCCO is a joke 3 place at best in your division.

  14. obama to reed “you’re looking old”.picture shows

The reporter on NFLN said that the players wouldn’t be able to do the normal stuff they do when they go to the White House due to the sequester, so yeah.

The line about Flacco wasn’t that funny but had a lot of seemingly fake laughter. The really good line the President had was when he was talking about Ray Lewis hurting his tricep and that he was pretty sure it was a result of the dance Ray does. I was thinking, “Oh no he di’in’t!”. The camera went to Ray who was mumbling something (think if the President could hear him it was that he was telling the President to do his dance because the President said he wasn’t going to do the dance)and it was like no one dared to laugh but it was by far the funniest line.

  16. Texans are going nowhere but their local sports bar to see the Super Bowl as long as Gary “Collapse at the End of the Season” Kubiak is in charge.

  17. Sorry Johnny boy, Pete Carroll and my PED boys will be at the white house the next 5 years.

  18. Hey, nothing stopping the Ravens from booking a flight to D.C. next year and watching the team that actually does win the Bowl get their props from the Prez.

Otherwise, I doubt Rice and Jones can bail out Flacco again like they did so often this year, so it’s doubtful the Ravens will be winning anything.

  19. I’m sure he does, somewhere on the television screen watching one of obamas speeches. Your arrogance will come back to bite you. Always does.

  20. Hate to say it but they do have as good a shot as anyone. Believe it or not, deep down Pats fans like me will admit that the Ravens are a respected rival (now that Lewis is gone).

So the “never” mantra of 2012 has turned into “doubtful” in 2013. Good to see you’re finally managing your expectations.

  22. The Harbaugh brothers will meet again next year for the Super Bowl!!!

… probably just to watch it at Mom & Dad’s house, though.

  23. Ravens will be back in the SB, mark my words. Steelers will do the right thing and fail to qualify for the playoffs so they don’t have to suffer the humiliation of getting Flacco’d like they got Tebowed.

  24. John Harbaugh and the Ravens have been to the AFC championship game 3 times, this past year obvisiously winning the Super Bowl and the Divisional playoff rounds the other 2 years he’s been coach. That leads me to believe we have a great opportunity to win another Super Bowl but no matter what were making it to the playoffs to all the people who have been saying we can’t.
    Sincerely,
    Ravens Nation

You shouldn’t brag about your team taking performance enhancing drugs…
