The Chiefs announced the signing of tight end Travis Kelce and linebacker Nico Johnson on Thursday, leaving rookie offensive tackle Eric Fisher as the club’s lone unsigned draft pick.
A third-round pick from Cincinnati, Kelce hauled in 45 passes for 722 yards and eight touchdowns for the Bearcats in 2012. His final collegiate catch was an 83-yard score vs. Duke in the Belk Bowl. On the play, Kelce lined up wide, split two defenders and sprinted about 60 yards for the game-winning TD after making the catch.
Kelce, Tony Moeaki and Anthony Fasano are the Chiefs’ top three tight ends.
Johnson played collegiately at Alabama, notching 54 tackles in 2012 for the Crimson Tide. The Chiefs’ fourth-round pick, Johnson will play inside in Kansas City’s defense.
