Former Chargers and Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman is apparently OK after being rushed from a Hollywood club to a hospital with what authorities described as a “medical emergency.”

Andrew Blankstein of the Los Angeles Times reports that Merriman was taken from The Colony to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center around 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time. Although Blankstein initially reported that authorities would not say what prompted the medical call, he later wrote on Twitter that, “Merriman overdosed, ingested unspecified combo of alcohol-drug.”

Merriman, however, seems to be OK this morning. He’s been active on Twitter, and the only indication that anything might have gone wrong for him last night is that he mentioned that the shirt he was wearing was ruined.

The 29-year-old Merriman announced his retirement this offseason after his once-promising NFL career was repeatedly hampered by injuries.
