After wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth took part in Tuesday’s minicamp practice with the Redskins as a tryout player, coach Mike Shanahan talked about Stallworth as if he was officially a member of the team.

He wasn’t then, but he is now. Stallworth sent out a tweet calling himself “beyond grateful and excited” that he agreed to a contract with the Redskins for the 2013 season. It’s a return engagement for Stallworth, who caught 22 passes in 11 games for the Redskins in 2011.

Stallworth played one game for the Patriots in 2012 and caught a 63-yard touchdown pass before injuring his ankle and landing on injured reserve. His status for this season was put in some doubt earlier in the offseason when Stallworth and his girlfriend were badly burned in a hot air balloon accident. Stallworth made a quick recovery, however, and impressed the Redskins enough to earn a ticket to training camp.

With Pierre Garçon, Josh Morgan, Leonard Hankerson and Santana Moss all on the roster, Stallworth won’t be guaranteed much more than that with Washington. That may not be much, but it’s still a lot better than having your butt catch on fire.
