Antonio Cromartie will have a house full of teammates

Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has reached the point of his career when he’s the veteran mentor, and so he’s going to get together with some teammates over the next month to show them the right way to stay in shape for the time off between the end of minicamp and the start of training camp.

Cromartie told Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger that a group of teammates including cornerback Kyle Wilson, cornerback Aaron Berry, safety Josh Bush and receiver Stephen Hill will stay at a house he’s renting in California and work out each day with his personal trainer. Cromartie said the California locale isn’t the draw; what’s important is that younger players can benefit from the kinds of offseason workouts that keep Cromartie in top shape.

It ain’t Cro West. It’s just the Cro Workout Regimen,” Cromartie said.

Jets coach Rex Ryan has preached the importance of team unity, and Cromartie said he likes that aspect of the workouts as well.

“By us working out together and understanding each other, we get a better feel for each other, too,” Cromartie said. “Not just here, but outside of this building. That’s something we’re trying to build on.”

With Darrelle Revis gone, Cromartie sounds like he’s taking seriously the responsibilities of being the unquestioned leader of the Jets’ secondary.
