Gronkowski’s back surgery will happen Tuesday

It’s unclear when Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will be able to play. But it is clear when he’ll have his next surgical procedure.

Via multiple reports, which PFT has confirmed, Gronkowski will undergo back surgery on Tuesday. Dr. Robert Watkins (who recently performed back surgery on Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul) will conduct the operation.

For Gronk, he’s had enough procedures in recent months to qualify for Cavity Sam status. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, previously told WQAM radio in Miami that the back surgery is minor, and that the recovery process won’t extend the timetable already created by his most recent forearm procedure.

For Patriots fans, the question isn’t simply when Gronkowski will be able to play. It’s whether he’ll remain healthy, and for how long, once he’s back on the field.
