John Moffitt fined $1,407 for disorderly conduct

AP

You hear references to people pissing money away all the time, but it’s rarely meant literally.

The case of Seahawks guard John Moffitt is an exception. Moffitt landed in hot water last year thanks to a series of incidents at a shopping mall in the Seattle area, starting with the mall’s security staff catching him urinating in public in January of 2012. Moffitt was subsequently barred from the mall and other properties owned by the same company, but was caught urinating at the Lincoln Square mall in June and then was arrested on charges of criminal trespass in August at a restaurant at the same mall.

Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN in Seattle reports that Moffitt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct (a plea bargain resulted in a lesser charge for Moffitt, who also faced a charge of obstructing a law enforcement officer) last Friday in Bellevue District Court to settle legal difficulties stemming from a series of incidents at a shopping mall in the Seattle area. He will pay a fine of $1,407 and received a suspended sentence of 24 months in jail that will not be served if he avoids further trouble.

It’s a bigger punishment than we’ve seen in other cases of public urination at a shopping mall, with or without the possibility of “uromysitisis poisoning” to explain away the breach of the rules.

  1. Is it coincidence that 2 players who previously tested positive for banned substances are now roid raging? We got Browner treating physical violence towards coaches, and this guy a serial public urinator. Who hangs out at a mall anyways other than high school girls?

  2. Cant wait till he does the same thing to Mr. FortyWHiner Harbaugh after both Seahawks victories this coming season.

He would only be doing what most of the fans of the other 31 teams want to do every time the leagues biggest crybaby begins another Whine tamtrum.

  3. To the obnoxious poster above. The place he urinated was indeed a shopping center in Bellevue. It has approximately 10 nice restaurants and about 6-7 very popular nightclubs. He wasn’t running around in some desolate rundown mall full of outlets and shoe stores. Where he was is similar to a bar row with how many places their is to go and drunk and party.

Everyday around the world people pass outside near those places, problem is the security their it’s too proactive. He was big so they noticed him and tried to make an example. Doesn’t mean the dude is a problem or nusense to the community.

Any man out their has pee’d in public somewhere, hr was just identified and prosecuted, I myself was almost booked when I was pissing In bushes while at college. Mall security is about the same as campus security. Both are Rediculous.
Dudes hilarious, would play football for beer which makes this story funny. He wasn’t pulling an r kelly stop criminalizing him so harshly over something everyone has or will do.

  4. As a Seahawks fan, no the guy is NOT awesome. It’s a stupid act and frankly, just an act of somebody who is spoiled (and considering his lack of production on the field, he has no business being spoiled). How interesting that he was drafted number 75 by the ‘Hawks and Russell Wilson was drafted number 75 by the ‘Hawks. Yet look at the difference in maturity level, skill, and work ethic. In the scheme of things, it’s not that big of an issue. But the pattern of his behavior and injuries and off-the-field behavior is very troubling.

I didn’t realize urinating was a sign of roid rage. My wife just walked out fo the bathroom. Maybe she needs to come clean with me.

  6. Why players spend a dollar in Bellevue is beyond me. They don’t want you guys there. Come down to the south end where drunks and parking lot pissers are welcome.

  7. I heard an interview where a NFL player was asked how do you go to the bathroom during a game. His answer was they just sit on towels along the bench and just wet themselves so they are ready to go back into the game at anytime. I think Moffit was just staying on mission off the field as well as on the field. Either that or someone has injected German Shepard DNA into him.

  8. I have to pull over about twice a week for my four-year-old to take a pee on the side of the road. Luckily, he’s a bit more discrete than Mr. Moffitt. Nonetheless, I think I’ll steer clear of Bellevue for the time being.

  9. HBO should have put Seahawks in Hard Knocks. Chilling drama tune in next time to see who gets suspended or arrested or maybe both!

  10. The guy is in his mid twenties. Anybody here that tries to claim they didn’t take a piss in what they thought was a discreet quiet corner at any point in their lives are full of it. The funny part is that if you would seriously judge somebody based on that then you really need to reevaluate the way you look at life. Give the guy a break its not like he’s out getting a DUI or beating his girlfriend

  11. 12thmanseattle, you are right that he did not get a DUI or beat his wife or girlfriend so what he did was not that bad. i think the issue was where he did it, in a shopping mall with families and children. Had he peed in a desolate area, no one would pay it any mind. but yes you have a good point, well taken.

  12. I agree with the above post from 12thmanseattle. If anyone here knew John Moffitt even a little, they’d know that he’s a really sweet guy. He’s not trying to be any sort of a bad ass. Was pissing in public poor judgement on his part? sure but who’s never made a careless mistake in their life? anyone? didn’t think so. We’ve all been a bit careless at times and yes, you’re damn right, he IS a strange dude but you know what else? He’s NEVER boring. I think he’s a great guy who makes mistakes like the rest of us other humans and people should lay off the harsh judgment calls, unless they’ve never done anything wrong in their lives.

  13. I can’t believe all the people making excuses for this low life. Put him in a cell for thirty days and let him piss in the corner and live with it.

  14. Yawn…..Moffitt is a funny and a unique character. Fans who want Seattle to fail try paint “public urination” some evil deed. Dumb choice especially if you had issues at a place already. I think he will be fully healthy and start for his starting job.

It was at night, dark, around the corner in the parking lot and the mall was closed.

  16. Not that big of a deal, Downtown Bellevue isnt a family friendly place anyway. It’s the type of place where they might ask you to leave if you’re not dressed right.

My advice to the Seahawks players is just dont go to Bellevue. Or Kirkland for that matter, it’s DUI central.

  17. The day I cast stones for pissing in alley after a night at the bars is the day I get inducted into the drunken hypocrite hall of fame.
