Chiefs, Jaguars in the mix for Desmond Bishop, too

AP

The Vikings get the first crack at former Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop.  But Bishop is making other plans for his NFL future.

Next up on the docket, PFT has confirmed, is a visit with the Chiefs on Thursday.  (Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the looming Chiefs visit.)  A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the Jaguars also are in play for Bishop.

Whoever offers Bishop the kind of contract he’s seeking will have to feel very good about his hamstring, which was seriously injured during the 2012 season.  Bishop ultimately may have to accept a deal that is tied to playing time and/or ability to suit up on game days.

If he’s healthy, the 28-year-old Bishop has plenty of football left in him.  That’s why physicals, workouts, and ultimately a leap of faith will be critical to determining the next step in his career.

  1. Guess Bish got to minny, saw the empty trophy cabinet and the rehab room where winny was working when he got cut and said “no thank you…”

  2. I’d say KC probably has the inside track to getting Bishop. I hate to see him go, but I don’t think TT would cut a player like this without a good reason. I think his injury issues may be worse than advertised, but I hope I’m wrong, all the best to him…

  3. Looks like the Chiefs are going to continue to have a great off season! If his hamstring is good, he is a tackle machine. Dorsey already knows all about him. And who would choose the jags? lol

    Hey cheesehead…..
These other interviews were lined up before he even went to MN. I bet if he has other offers the same as MN he will take the Viking offer just to get a chance to play GB twice a year and stick it to them.

  5. If he passes the physical, the Vikings will offer him a contract that probably won’t be what he’s looking for. But hey, if you want to play for a successful team while sticking it to the Packers twice a year, you have to make some concessions.

You Niner fans crack me up.

  7. Watch out chiefs/jags fans. Here come a flurry of posts from jilted Packer fans calling you out for even looking at him.

  8. The Chiefs, or Queefs, thought they had a dynasty last year with all the FA signings and managed to actually be worse than the Jags and Raiders. The Chiefs were the worst team in the league last year. Yeah, Id wanna go there. Out of the 3, the Raiders look the obvious best with the new guys on the roster. Roach, Burnett, Woodson, Cribbs, Porter, etc.. They are the sleeper and turnaroud team of the year, dont doubt it. It will be like Indy when they signed Luck in Oakland this year.

“You’re right, poor guy has the opportunity to play with 3 2012 pro-bowl linebackers.”

3 Pro Bowl linebackers? That sounds great. Too bad they were all on a 2-14 team. Lotta good that pro bowl did them…

  10. why do people say he’s going to the Vikings so he can stick it to the Packers there is no sticking involved when you lose

  11. CarlG, you go from crying around about Bishop to sympathizing. Just let it go & face fact. He got cut from your favorite team & is no longer a cheesehead. Your comments are no longer warranted.
As for the guy who thinks Oakland is a sleeper…lol!

  12. bigj- When did the chiefs get the right to talk smack on other teams? I know the jags suck right now but so do the chiefs. when was your last playoff win? pretty sure it was about 19 years ago compared to the jags 5. Someone needs a reality check

  13. Yeah go Packers! I bought a share of the Packers and they still won’t let me touch the trophy! Being a Packer fan since 2009 (like 100% of Packer Fans today) the Pack are the only thing we got. I love “owning” the team, but sadly I never see any of the profit. 🙁

  14. If bishop signs with the vikings he will be an awesome pick up and the missing piece of the super bowl puzzle. If he chooses any other team he is overrated, slow, injury plagued, old and a liability in pass coverage.
You can’t help but love some of the PFT trolls. 🙂

Dang! I never knew the Vikes were one gimpy linebacker away from the SuperBowl!

Sign me up! I’m getting on this bandwagon!

  16. The Chiefs very well could be a team that could turn things around and could be a strong team in the AFC West. They are quietly building a solid team and so if the FA’s are wanting to play with them they will be a force in 2013.

  17. With the salary cap already blown on other ex Packers, the Vikings have no wiggle room. Add to the equation that Bishop doesn’t have a lot of time left so he must choose carefully.

Think logically about this (thereby eliminating all Viking trolls); ex Packer front office people are now calling the shots in Seattle, Oakland and KC with a head coach in Miami. Out of those four, Bishop played his college ball at California so if I had to guess, he will probably end up with the Raiders.

  18. bishup going to the vikings is really laughable. they r are terrible team whose fans dont know the difference betweeen football and nasckar. face is demsond you had it good in green bay and blew youre chance. now onto the lastplace vikings or jaguars or cheifs. poor guy.

  19. Dear Indefatigable Viking Trolls,

The Vikings have beaten the Pack once since 2009.

    Packer fans

  20. How can you say vikes are a terrible team? They are the ones who are quietly building something good. Had a great draft, now have young receivers, a top 3 off. line in the nfl, the best rb in the nfl. Im not saying they will win it all, but by all means, they dont stink.

The Queefs??? Are you referring to the Vikings? If you are, you may want to know they didn’t sign many free agents at all last year. Nor were they worse than the Jags or the Raiders. Hopefully you weren’t talking about them but if you were, you may want to research last year’s information again.

  22. Hey santoryu64, you got me. Three probowl lb’s congrats. Here I thought it was all about winning. By the way, when was the last playoff win again for the Chiefs? Pushing two decades by now huh? Keep holding on tight to that SB from 1970 our whenever it was.

  23. If he’s healthy, he’ll be signing with the Vikings. They are a young, up and coming team with the most talented RB in the history of the NFL. Oh, and he gets to stick it to Thompon twice a year. Bishop is angry, no way he passed up that opportunity.

    Dead on right.

  25. Post of the day so far is that Packer fans cannot comment on ex-Packer players. Yeah thanks, we forgot that only Viking fans are allowed to talk about present and past Packers.

    …………..

Yes last I checked that’s one more than the Vikes or the Jags have.

  27. Look, any knowledgable football fan would keep their mouth shut right now about the Chiefs season last year. Everyone in the know realizes the potential on this team, and knows why expectations were not met last year. Those problems have been solved along with key additions to other positions. The boys in Vegas know what they have in KC, the only doubts right now are if they can put it all together in one year.

  28. I read that wrong, I thought they were in the hunt for Bishop Desmond Tutu!!!

They need all the prayers they can get!!!!!!

    Agreed.

And he’ll have to accept the fact that in the event the Vikings ARE able to beat the Packers, that’s their “SuperBowl” and it will have to do.

    Dear Indefatigable Viking Trolls,

The Vikings have beaten the Pack once since 2009.

    Packer fans

Actually it’s 3 times but facts don’t matter much when dealing with packer fans

  32. Vikings have beaten the Packers once in the past 3 seasons 1-6 versus the Packers in that time. There I fixed it you happy now Contra?

  33. Andy Reid places zero value in a LB corps…..Jeremiah Trotter was the closest thing to any love he had for the position. You can remove the Chiefs from any serious consideration. This smells of an agent making an attempt to leverage any legit suitors.

  34. Too early to say TT blew this, but signing Jones for 3+million and not reducing Hawk to under 3+ million was a mistake. There is just not enough NFL starting caliber talent in those 2. If Bishop comes out healthy in 2013/2014, there will be a lot of disappointed Packer fans (me included) if the Pack ILBs keep making tackles 9 yards down field.

  35. @packerbacker2010
Did you have a stroke? The vikings( or the CHEIFS) are the best option for him. Mostly the vikings because we are not very deep at MLB.

  36. Although it isn’t perfect, it is an indicator of how much talent a team has.
    ——
The exception to that is Jeff Saturday making the Pro Bowl over John Sullivan last year. What a complete joke that was. He lost his starting job before the end of the season.

  37. What a sad, mournful existence it must be being a Packer fan. Having that be the only thing in your life (that and seeing all of those whale tails when you are out in restaurants)

  38. Rick Spielman is a Magician says:

    =====================
The depth of your ignorance is truly breathtaking. If you want to see a true indicator of how much talent a team has, look at their trophy case. In your case, you will have to leave town to do it but fortunately for you, there is a city 300 miles away that has more than one.

  39. To the guy who said the Vikes have no cap room — they’re about $7M under the cap — plenty to sign Bishop if he’s healthy. I have a hard time seeing TT release the guy if he’s healthy, particularly as mediocre as the Pack LBs are (other than CMIII).

  40. i would have a hard time being a fan of a team that constantly sign’s castoff’s of the opposing rivalry. i mean do viking fan’s seriously not get upset at this? it’s one thing to do it once and a while but the ink on his he got cut paper’s still hadn’t dried and he was on a plane for minny? either way i hope bishop the best.

  41. You guys will have to forgive racerx1225. He will learn this year what the Chiefs learned last year. It doesn’t matter how good the rest of the team is, if you don’t have a legit starting QB.
Smith may or may not be a top 10 QB but he is light years ahead of anyone the Chiefs put under Center last year.

I bet all those Viking pro-bowlers look great in the trophy case next to all those Superbowl troph………Oh nevermind.

Lol. I think the Yikes idea of a trophy case is a box full of bobbleheads! 😀

  43. There are rumors that the Vikings are passing on Bishop. I guess only time will tell but one thing is for certain a Major Hamstring Injury and one wrong move your on the shelf for 4 to 8 games if not another season.
    ~
Only time will tell but I do not think it will be with the Vikings.
