The Vikings built plenty of rest into running back Adrian Peterson’s schedule, after his offseason sports hernia surgery.

But Peterson was on the field with his teammates yesterday as the Vikings wrapped up minicamp, and said the next month back in Houston won’t be a vacation.

“Oh, no. I’m going to crank it up, actually,” Peterson said, via Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com. “Really bust my tail and be ready for training camp.”

The reigning MVP didn’t practice much coming down the stretch last season and performed sufficiently well, so the Vikings were comfortable easing off his workload this offseason.

“We kind of know what he’s capable of doing,” Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. “He knows the offense, so every now and then, we’re going to pick our spots and say, ‘Let the other guys handle it.’”

Making sure he’s able to handle it this fall remains the most important goal, and Peterson said he’s ready for that.
