A pre-trial hearing in the case against former Lions wide receiver Titus Young was scheduled for Monday in Newport Beach, California, but Young was not present.

Young, who faces 11 charges ranging from burglary to assault of a police officer after a May arrest, was able to avoid an arrest warrant, however. David Leon Moore of USA Today reports that Superior Court Judge Andre Manssourian declined to immediately issue the warrant after an off the record conversation with Young’s attorney Altus W. Hudson II.

Hudson said that “personal reasons” were to blame for Young’s absence and that his client is still being evaluated by a psychiatrist. The prosecutor said that she felt sure Manssourian would not have handled things this way if he weren’t convinced that there was a good reason for Young’s absence in court on Monday.

Manssourian did issue and hold a bench warrant for $100,000, which would be enforced if Young misses the next scheduled court date on July 2.
