Josh Brent back in jail after another failed drug test

Josh Brent

NFL Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent leaves court in Dallas on Friday May 24, 2013, after a hearing to determine if he violated the terms of his bail. He is facing intoxication manslaughter charges in the Dec. 8 crash that killed Jerry Brown Jr., a Cowboys’ practice squad player. He’s been free on $100,000 bond, but prosecutors say he violated the terms of his release by setting off an alcohol monitoring device and failing to download data from it as required. The Cowboys have tried to support defensive tackle Josh Brent after he was charged with intoxication manslaughter for a drunken car crash that killed a teammate.

But Brent is making it harder and harder to justify that support.

According to NBC 5 in Dallas, Brent is back behind bars, after failing a second test for marijuana.

Brent reportedly tested positive earlier this month as well, while he’s out on bond awaiting trial for the death of teammate Jerry Brown.

Brown’s own mother has urged forgiveness, and the Cowboys have reportedly been inclined to hang onto him for his football potential.

But at a time when the Patriots immediately released Aaron Hernandez and the Browns washed their hands of Ausur Walcott immediately after charges were filed, the Cowboys’ decision looks more and more unusual, and their faith poorly placed.
