Wes Welker: Manning “makes it easy for you”

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has avoided making comparisons between Peyton Manning and the guy who used to throw Welker passes in New England, but that doesn’t mean he won’t talk about what it’s like to play with Manning.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Welker overflows with compliments when he does. We may be in the dark about whether Welker thinks Manning or Tom Brady is the better quarterback, but Welker left no doubt that he’s found Manning to be every inch the quarterback he used to watch the Patriots defense try to beat.

“It’s everything you thought,” Welker said, via the Broncos website. “The balls are just so accurate and you come out of your break and the ball is just there. It’s almost like a long handoff sometimes. He definitely makes it easy on you.”

Having a quarterback that makes life easier for you isn’t the only thing that’s contributed to a smooth transition from New England to Denver. Manning says the Broncos have taken things from tape that the Patriots did with Welker and installed them into their own playbook, something that only adds to the feeling that the Broncos offense is poised for a big 2013 season with the Manning-Welker connection playing a prime role.

  1. Isn’t this during the voluntary workouts? Meaning half speed, shells practices? I’m not surprised they’re accurate, hell, Gabbert probably looks decent right now. The throws are a little harder to make in Denver in December or January.

  2. It’s going to be AWESOME!!!! I’m so glad the Broncos got Wes. Look out NFL!!! The Broncos are looking HOT this year!!!

  3. Looking forward to this potentially dynamic duo.
While not a Bronco fan since Floyd Little, Go Broncs

And Brady didn’t? Shut up Wes

Just because he complimented Manning, doesn’t mean he’s insulting Brady. He was asked a question about Peyton and kept it strictly about Peyton. He didn’t try to make any comparison between Manning and Brady. YOU’RE the one that’s making the comparison between the two.

  5. Denver has made all the right moves to give Manning a legit shot at another title. That offense is stacked with talent and the Defense is loaded as well. This should be an interesting season to come.

Welker also was pleased with the absence of any murderers in the Broncos locker room.
Speaking as a Pat’s fan, that was a good one 😉

  7. Welker and the Pats didn’t necessarily have the cleanest of break ups and unfortunately we’ll probably never know why.

That said, I’m over the passive aggressive comments that he’s making about the team that made him who he is. If he hadn’t have hooked up with Brady and the Pats he’s probably still be returning punts or be out of the league right now.

Get over yourself, Wes, you haven’t played a snap in a Broncos uniform yet.

  8. that’s why he only has 1 ring…team mates thought he would make it easy for them too

  9. Belichick knows Welker better than anyone and he wasn’t willing to bet on him. We’ll see if he was right. Welker has not been great in clutch situations recently, but maybe Manning won’t need to depend on him as much as Brady did.

  10. Sure is nice they get along so well, and yes, Welker and Brady got along real well but that is over on the field. But practice is good for later when the games start in ernest and catches count, like for first downs and touchdowns. Happy with their progress and hope they win out while hoping the Saints get back on track also. GEAUX SAINTS

  11. Practice is nice, we’ll see how much Welker likes Manning’s ducks and his annual one and done playoff exits in January when the time comes.

People will disagree now, but once the season starts it won’t take long for Danny Amendola to prove that the Patriots made the right choice.

  12. Sounds like Welker got out of Dodge at the right time. Cross Hernandez the wrong way and you may end up in a landfill somewhere.

I wonder how “BB” feels now about being cheap and letting Wes Welker go?

I think he feels the same… they paid more for Amendola than Welker ended up taking in Denver. They had Welker if they wanted him and they just didn’t want him. Guess he should have caught that pass in the Super Bowl.

  14. Manning will continue to make it easy for Welker until late in the season when his arm turns to a noodle again and his neck is killing him.

  15. “And Brady didn’t? Shut up Wes”

That’s right little johnny, he isn’t. In fact I bet you will see Amandola’s production go down going from Sam Bradford to your over-rated, prima-donna, girl-arems QB.

  16. Welcome to my fantasy football team Peyton Manning! Decker, Welker, and Demayrius Thomas? Going to have to be a lot of passes thrown to keep ’em all happy.

  17. I don’t think he is insinuating anything but I want to hear what he has to say when the season begins. But nothing can take away the 3 SB rings Brady has.

Ridiculous. The Patriots tried to re-sign Welker twice. They offered him $8M a year last summer.

They just didn’t want to pay him what he was asking for, which was more than that up until offseason started.

People really underrate Welker as an athlete because of his height. I’ve never seen anyone get open as much as Welker did in NE. Broncos fans are going to be very happy with him. He might be the best slot receiver to ever play the game.

  19. Gonna be hilarious watching the Donkeys win absolutely nothing with MegaHead…again.

  20. He’ll make it real easy for you. Instead of you actually dropping passes thrown your way in the Playoffs, Peyton will take that pressure off and throw interceptions instead.

Dummervill and Suggs gonna eat manning for lunch when the Ravens come to town alongside the best QB in the league JOE FLACCO!

  21. I didn’t care for Peyton Manning much until his 3rd or 4th season in the NFL. Class act. Even then it was hard to see him shred my Titans twice every year (including our sometimes league-leading defenses)–seeing it in person was even worse. I’ve seen Brady in person also. In my mind, they are the only ones we’ve seen who come close to Joe Montana.

If you hate on Manning or Brady, then you clearly want to be labeled a fool. And if I’m forced to choose? I’d take Manning. He’s proved to more of an X-factor when having little to no talent around him.

You have to love these haters. So clueless!! The same idiots that still think that AH is innocent.

All WW has done is work his tail off and answer reporters questions. Never once did he attack his prior employer or mention anything he liked more or less about either QB. If you want to get mad, get mad at the reporters with their mics in his face asking the questions.

Keep doing what you do WW, I applaud the hard work and right approach to the game.

  23. Yes, Manning does make it easy, easy to lose playoff games by making it easy for dbs to pull in ints. And per usual, same rule applied last year. When are you people going to wake up! LOL

  24. Absolute shot at Brady because Brady did not show any support for him to be brought back to the “Patriot Gang.”

  25. Broncos are gonna be really…..really good this year.
probably the #1 seed again and a legit contender to win it all.
only team scarier might be the Pack or 9rs if kaepernick plays lights out.
I don’t see a team in the AFC that can match up….But “any given sunday” rule always applies

  26. I’ve been following the Broncos since their Quarterback was Marlin Briscoe…anybody remember that far back?
I think they have the talent to go all the way…but, the coaching I have to question. Anyway, go Broncos!
