Yes, linebacker Desmond Bishop’s one-year deal with the Vikings is worth, as we previously reported, a maximum of $1.35 million. The financial risk the Vikings have taken is far lower than that.
The package contains, per a source with knowledge of the deal, only $50,000 in guaranteed money.
The guarantee comes as part of Bishop’s $750,000 base salary. He also is eligible for up to $500,000 in playing-time incentives, and a $100,000 bonus if he’s on the roster in any one regular-season game.
The full base salary of $750,000 will essentially become fully guaranteed if Bishop is on the Week One roster. Which means he’ll also earn the $100,000 bonus.
So if Bishop makes the team, he gets at least $850,000. If he doesn’t, he gets $50,000.
