Low-tech police work connects Lefeged to gun

Lefeged

In this age of CSI, it’s refreshing to see a crime or two solved by some good, old-fashioned, low-tech police work.

For Colts defensive back Joe Lefeged and his allegedly illegal possession of a .40-caliber handgun, it doesn’t get much lower tech.

According to Jill Disis of USA Today, documents show that the gun was purchased by Lefeged in February 2013. And the most damning document -- the receipt for the purchase -- actually was in the car with the gun.

Lefeged was held without bail pending a preliminary hearing set for Tuesday morning. Complicating matters for Lefeged and the driver of the car in which he was riding is an alleged effort to flee the police stop, and then ditched the car and ran away.

Lefeged was apprehended. The driver is still at large.

Lefeged faces charges of carrying a firearm without license, possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing unregistered ammunition, having a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of an open container of alcohol.
