Foot injury keeps Ray Lewis off Kilimanjaro

Ray Lewis was able to play in the Super Bowl after suffering a torn triceps.

But he couldn’t walk up Mount Kilimanjaro because of an injured foot and a fever.

Perhaps wildebeest antler velvet extract isn’t quite the same.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, Lewis had to pull out of the charity climb called TackleKili, which raises money for clean water projects in Africa.

“In the end, Ray’s decision was to let the team move on without him, rather than hold them back or put himself in a position where an injury which requires surgery could become even more complicated,” TackleKili said in a statement. “As always, his team backed his play. So while Ray refocused his service to this cause at a lower altitude, his team began the ascent on behalf of those in desperate need of clean water.”

Lewis stayed back off the mountain in Tanzania, and helped provide hearing aids to children.

“Last night he had a bad night, fevered and really rough,” said Frank Gamble, during a video about the trip. “So, this morning when he woke up, the foot was killing him, years of injuries and all of that. So, we’re going to miss him.

“I just say goodbye to him and told him we love him. He made a significant contribution financially to provide safe water to people. Even though we’re not going to have Ray, we’re going to have plenty of wonderful people.”

The group does include one former NFL player, as former Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris is making the trip.

  1. Hats off to Ray Lewis for using his position and wealth to make the world a better place! I’m sure all the loser creeps will make fun of him but that’s what loser creeps do.

  2. You’re a few weeks too late with the proper headline:

“Stab wounds keep Lewis off Mt. Rushmore”

  3. Don’t ever ask Lewis to help you move. You’ll get the “my aunt died” last-minute excuse.

  4. I suspect Ray Lewis has had a lot of”bad nights of not sleeping” in the past 13 years with many more to come.

  5. You gotta hand it to Ray Lewis. He snitched on his posse before they snitched on him.

That may be the prosecutorial difference in the Lewis and Hernandez cases

  6. I heard that a sherpa guide fell to his death. Ray immediately burned all his gear.

  7. I respect the fact that he was there to help others.

However, I’ll never get over that his entire life is just one giant charade.

Real leaders don’t hide when the trouble comes.

  8. Donating his time, energy, and money to bring clean water and hearing assistance to impoverished people. That’s someone who is giving back. With all the wanna be comedians on here I’ll bet a very, very small number have done anything even close.

And paid off the Sherpa’s family…

  10. Scoobies, Plax is an idiot the shot himself, he had the money to pay bodyguards, mock him to you hearts content. Harrison was as much of a liability as Pollard or Reed, he will have a determined year but he needed to go, as well as a few other injury cases but that will happen. Ben was only accused. I can accuse people of anything, does not make it true. If he screws up and it turns out to be true then mock him. Ray played a part in the double murders, may not of stabbed the guys but he knows what went down. A God fearing man knows what he’ll face in the afterlife.
All the Ray and Ben jokes are old for different reasons. People need to get new material and stay current. Only reason Ray was current was due to returning to the Super Bowl.
Less hate, more pointing out the facts. Have opinions but no need for nastiness.

  11. I thought he was climbing the mountain to hide the evidence from 12 years ago.

    Exactly.

  13. hey jm…good to hear from you. if you follow the ray story the facts are he and his friends were attacked by the 2 men who were killed. so based on that, the only 2 people who were tried for this were ruled to have acted in self defense. playng devil’s advocate, had ray been directly involved in their deaths, if the men who died were the instigators, how is that murder. the white suit that ray’s detractrors like to bring up is missing. im sure it was covered in blood due the fight. ray was wrong for destroying it and for lying to the police…and he pleaded out to misdeameanor obstruction. interested in hearing your thoughts

Well said. Thanks for putting the loser creeps in their rightful place.

  15. When this story broke few weeks ago I knew that he would quit. It was all a sham.
you can’t hide climbing ability. Either you can or you cannot climb.
another wannbe who thought it looked easy and then quit. No place to hide eh?

  16. Hate on Ray all you want, but the guy has does nothing but be a positive example for people since the incident in Atlanta.
Many people, provided a second chance, would not do half of the charitable things he does. And he not only donates to causes, he actually participates.
If Ray was all that bad a person, I would bet that he would have found himself in another situation. That has not, nor will, occur.
I commend him for turning that incident into a situation to put his life on the right path and make a positive difference for others.

  18. I don’t blame him, I wouldn’t want to make that climb being sick. Trying to do something like that while going through a fever is dangerous. Usually when your feverish, you are weak and sometimes out of it. You don’t want to get half way up there and risk the others safety if something happens.

  19. I really don’t care about the Atlanta incident. It’s been played to death. Personally I can’t even remember a thing about it. But innocent men don’t destroy evidence, just ask Hernandez what he was trying to do. AlsoRay is a drama queen, I understand there’s emotion when it cones to hanging up the cleats but he went abut overboard.

  20. “But he couldn’t walk up Mount Kilimanjaro because of an injured foot and a fever.”

Allegedy, and you can’t prove nuthin, Gantt.

  21. im sure it was covered in blood due the fight. ray was wrong for destroying it and for lying to the police…and he pleaded out to misdeameanor obstruction.

It sounds so simple and innocent when explained by someone with values that accept lying to the police and destroying evidence as ok as long as we get our Lombardi’s ……pathetic and morally bankrupt.

Thank god most teams would do as the Pats did and I commend them…what about you raven fans?

  22. jm….i will admit he can go overboard with the histronics. no doubt about that. but i cant say i agree with you on the suit. and again, he and his group were the ones attacked
nofool….as guilty as he looks, hernandez hasnt been convicted of anything. if all it takes is an accusation then ben would have been gone a long time ago. and your team currently employs a convicted felon in its quest for ring 7. i already know what you are going to say, but it sure seems like you get to make your own rules when it comes to deciding what is or isnt acceptable

  23. Wow What a wise crack about antler velvet. Unless you was with him 24/7 you don’t have a clue. What a very immature and unprofessional comment !

  24. This guy paid off the family of a guy that was murdered by either him or one of his posse and now is preaching about God every chance he gets… God knows all. Thou shall not kill. Ray will get what is coming to him.

  25. please explain how its murder when the men who were killed started the fight and the two men who were put on trial were ruled to have acted in self defense.

  26. “It sounds so simple and innocent when explained by someone with values that accept lying to the police and destroying evidence as ok as long as we get our Lombardi’s ……pathetic and morally bankrupt.

Strange. But Ray Lewis was convicted of obstruction of justice so it’s really hard to see how anyone accepted that as “ok.” Unless of course you believe that someone with a criminal (Plaxico) record should be banned (Plaxico) from the NFL for life. In that case (Plaxico) perhaps you should cc Mr. Rooney the next time you (Plaxico) publish your little (Plaxico) holier-than-thou manifesto.

And Scoobie is right. If you’re so up on the Pats for dumping first and waiting for the judicial process to run second, what did you make of the Steelers retaining Roethlisbooger? Do you draw the line at waiting for the cops to file charges because, as you know, the cop who investigated R- booger basically sabatoged the case for an autographed photo. Look it up.

    Arf!

1 0 Ravens are the laughing stock of the NFL. We kill for Lombardi’s . Look at te posts the past week youRaven trolls are taking a shameful eating r eingsuh mercenaries…funny. Keep trying troll. You’ll get to the trolling HOF someday.

  28. funny how you call us trolls as you post on a ravens site. funny how you rely on public opinoon when outside of pitt most people think ben is a rapist. funny how its ok for the steelers are allowed to use due process for their accused felons or are allowed to employ felons. guess you are just funny

  29. The Ray haters, are dumb & misinformed. The murder jokes are obsessive & have gotten old. You haters have never done anything in your lives.

  30. funny how you call us trolls as you post on a ravens site. funny how you rely on public opinoon when outside of pitt most people think ben is a rapist. funny how its ok for the steelers are allowed to use due process for their accused felons or are allowed to employ felons. guess you are just funny

0 1 I am funny as hell, but your sense of humor is as deep as your compassion for two dead guys in Atlanta. Don’t shift to Ben when last weeks comparisons Ray versus Hernandez Pats handling things correctly and the Ravens handling them wrong. I know you are butt sore over the embarrassment the ravens took on this site…..ah karma smells so sweet to me.

  31. you truly delusional and the biggest hypocrite i know. but thats ok. if you honestly believe that its “embarrasing” because people make judgements over the headlines they read and they “know” what ray did, its the same group that knows ben is a rapist. cant have your cake and it eat to my friend. so support your local felon in its quest for 7

  32. Scoobies I need a favor. I know you believe in Santa, Easter bunny, tooth fairy and Rays innocence. Could you say a good word for my puppy as he lost his first tooth today….thanks dude.

  33. sure. i love puppies. speaking of crazy belief systems, are you still thinking its ok for the steelers to employ felons in its quest for number 7 while the rest of the league is held to a different standard? hope the puppy is ok. make sure he does all his roethlisbergers outside…otherwise the smell is just awful

  34. Scoobie s thanks for the good word with your pal the tooth fairy. Our felon tried to kill himself….he paid the price in jail. You say Ray paid the price yet you keep going after such a low grade felon…not in Rays lying and obstructing class…but hey you need to hide from reality some how…the puppy ravenates on a very green llawn and I have raven bags to pick the ravanations that he leaves.

  35. Come on guys and gals-all of these guys have no sense. Lewis, Hernandez, carruth, oj, etc…..if they couldn’t play ball, where would they be?

  36. Scoobie, don’t you know that Roethlisbooger and Ray Lewis were both investigated in Georgia? Does it really surprise you that they were so hell bent on charging Lewis with a felony and so determined to cover-up what Roethlisbooger did? Look at the facts. The investigator on the Lewis case swore Ray was innocent and thinks the charges against him were trumped up. Roethlisbooger’s investigator, on the other hand, posed for autographed pictures, trashed the victim for no cause, which created such a scandal he was eventually forced to resign. It all depends on who you know and when you travel with off duty cops as bodyguards who pull a giant Sgt. Schultz when interviewed (I know nothing, I see nothing), that’s the difference between having to face the music and getting off scot free.
