Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard is due in court on July 31 for a hearing to determine whether he violated probation by getting arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that Dennard needs to be in court in Nebraska for the hearing, which will take place while the Patriots are in training camp.

Dennard was placed on probation in April after he was convicted of assaulting a police officer last year. Dennard was also given a 30-day jail sentence, but the judge allowed him to wait until after this season to serve that sentence. It’s possible that the judge could rule that the DUI arrest constitutes a probation violation and could order him to jail immediately.

Just days after his arrest for the incident with the police officer, the Patriots selected Dennard in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL draft. He played well as a rookie and is expected to be a starter for the Patriots this season -- if he’s still on the roster and not in jail or suspended.
