The Patriots spent the offseason collecting receivers in bulk, but have apparently decided in advance of camp to thin the herd.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Patriots are releasing Donald Jones. He was signed to a three-year deal this offseason after his time with the Bills, but it didn’t take them nearly that long to decide his fate.
The move clears the decks for draft picks Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce to earn time alongside veteran Danny Amendola.
They also brought Michael Jenkins and Lavelle Hawkins in this offseason. Other than Amendola, there’s not a lot standing in the way of the rookies having a chance.
