Cowboys to give center Travis Frederick a little work at guard, too

The Cowboys plan to have first-round pick Travis Frederick “spending most of his time at center” in training camp, head coach Jason Garrett said Saturday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

However, Garrett also noted that Frederick would get some practice reps at guard, too, the Star-Telegram reported.

“He has a comfort level with that, so we’re going to look for opportunities starting here in training camp to be able to do some of that,” Garrett said of Frederick playing guard, per the paper.

If Frederick shows he’s capable of playing guard, it strengthens the Cowboys’ options along the offensive line, as the club has the experienced Phil Costa to plug in at center if Frederick were to play elsewhere inside.

  1. Good. If Travis can play guard, and Costa stays healthy, then this will look like a completely different team. Not to mention if Doug Free plays up to his potential.

  2. Jerry should have drafted guard Larry Warford and then he would have a guard instead of Frederick, a slow center who may or may not be able to play guard in the NFL.

Not feeling good about this offensive line again this year.

  3. The more positions he can play the better because if they drafted him for strictly the center position they “screwed” the pooch for sure! He could’ve been had later in the draft for sure! Probably could have got him in the 2nd round easily regardless of the current rookie pay scale!! Now with Phil Costa being engaged to the “hulk’s” daughter this has “drama” written all over it”! Surprised HBO didn’t go after the Cowboys instead of my Bengals for this years “Hard Knocks” series. Or at the least one of the networks! Most likely the “Faux” channel!! They eat this kind of $hit up!!

  4. I hate the Cowboys, but they need to find a way to get this guy on the field week 1 or the trading down was a complete waste.

  5. Jerrah found out this guy’s arms were too short to play center.

Everytime he snapped the ball, he would hit himself in the jelly beans and scream like a little girl.

After enough of the coaches wincing at said practice, someone suggested maybe he should play guard.
