The first day of the first training camp of Sanders Commings’ NFL career did not go well.
Commings, a defensive back selected by the Chiefs with the first pick in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft, suffered a broken collarbone today on the first day of camp, the Kansas City Star reports.
It’s too early to say how much time Commings will miss, but a broken collarbone would likely prevent him from practicing for several weeks, and the Chiefs may end up deciding that a rookie won’t be ready to play at all this year after missing all of camp and the preseason. Injured reserve is a possibility.
A three-year starter at Georgia, Commings was expected to get work at both safety and cornerback in training camp with the Chiefs.
